The Scotty systems are
NOT known for collapsing. There were a few collapses with the old Psychotty Air and the K&N filter, many of which were caused by the back side of the filter housing being taped off to completely eliminate underhood air. In other words, the housings were modified beyond what the designer intended.
Since the switch to the aFe filter, and ESPECIALLY since the switch to the Scotty II design with dual inlets, there has
NOT BEEN a single collapse of an air system that any customer has made us aware of. Since we're the primary distriutor, we'd have found out about it through the issuance of a warranty replacement.
To take this one step further, since the switch to a new mold with overlapping seams early last year, there has not been one single warranty replacement sent out.
Another important fact to keep in mind when selecting an air box is that you do not want air simply swirling around inside a housing. Airflow needs to be guided and directed around and through the filter. A square housing is simply not capable of doing this, and as such, must be made larger to ensure that it does not starve the system of air. The current housing size on the Scotty did not happen by accident. Several housing diameters were molded and used during its testing and change by even 1/2 an inch in either direction has a tendency of reducing airflow and raising EGTs.
Sorry guys, didn't mean to turn the aFe thread into an advertisement for another product, however there was some disinformation that needed to be addressed before people new to the sport were misled.
