Twins install question

In cab on/off switch for 02 VA box?

while at muncie installed ez with boost elbow ...

buried the filter minder in the stock box ...

bought afe magnum intake with proguard 7 filter, installed it at the drags sunday under the timing signs in the pits ...

drove home nice'n easy ...

filterminder buried again!

i would buy it again just for the sound and abilitly to inspect filter everytime i pop the hood ...

but am dissappoint with the APPARENT lack of airflow ...

i've heard from others with similiar results as well

would love to hear an explanation on this from someone ...

are you listening AFE?

on the DTR website there is a detailed 7 page post from others with similiar concerns

i've seen the 820 cfm claim (vs 327 stock)

if that is true than that little ez boost elbow is truely a mechanical marvel:D

I found I can bury mine if I have the prefilter on. Without the prefilter I can bring it down half way. With the non proguard filter it would barely move.

the filter minder wouldn't pull down at all with the stock airbox/filter combo with a 4" hole in the bottom

why do you believe the filter flows more than 4" open tube?

i certainly hope you're right though

I know for a fact that the AFE flows more than a open 4" tube because myself plus another 80 or so TDR members saw this with our owns eyes at the AFE plant on there bench air flow tester. Don't remember exact numbers but there was an obvious difference. The AFE also flowed much more air than the BHAF. The way the AFE straightens out and directs the air into the tube is the reason for the greater air flow. One other member challenged the owner of AFE that his BHAF flowed more air, that is what brought about the demonstration, the member ended out with a free AFE set up for losing the challenge. He also gained 8HP over the BHAF proven on there Dyno in front of the same crowd. Not sure why you are having problems with your filter minder, but are you also having alot of smoke with that, higher EGT's, slower spool up, slower cool down, less power, I would consider those factors before I blamed the proven air filter, and the fact that the minder may be bad. Let us know what else you find out and good luck.

no smoke at all with the ez set on hidden level 5, tons o' power ...

the info you posted has put the smile back on my face...

it was the exact type of thing i was hoping to hear ...

good to hear that AFE had the cojones back up their advertising

that's the good part about TDR, someone's usually been there done that

thanks

My truck was the one tested at AFE 4/3/04. BHAF flowed 279cfm at 1. 50 H20. AFE flowed 630 cfm at1. 50. 4 in pipe flowed 400 at 1. 00h2o I pick up 8HP my changing filters never toke truck off DANO during test. 80 pepole watching. Can not get miamder to move at all now. Howard

Keep in mind that 2broke2smoke has the Proguard version, not the regular one. The Proguard is not going to flow as much as the regular filter.

They tested the progaurd at the same time and it was only about 50 cfm less than the regular AFE. They tested it at the same water column, Proguard 7, Megacannon, BHAF and 4" open pipe. It was a pretty impressive demonstration.

Hey Howard I figured you would catch onto one of these threads, hows that Filter treating you. Talk at ya soon, or see you Wed.

I have heard discussion of "over oiling" about the AFE filters right out of the box. This could decrease air flow dramatically.

Maybe you could try a cleaning and light re-oiling.
