I just installed my AFE mega-cannon. Mr. Bobs distributing supplied me, great service at a pretty good price from what i could find. Anyway, that air filter is LOUD. Not for the faint of heart. I didn't really know what to expect, but all i have to say is my wife is not going to be happy on our next trip. Hey its my truck I'll do what i want right, well she funds the mods so i guess she might have a little say. I will admit it does sound pretty damn cool though, you definitly will get a closer relationship with your turbo.

Nice isn't it? There have been a couple of other threads running about the AFE and the noise. Including tips on turning down the volume. But from experience, unless your 'ol lady rides in the truck A LOT, she probably won't notice, at least mine didn't. In fact it w3as about two months until she saw my baby with the hood up, and asked "What the he## is that? Was that stock?":--)

If you really pay attention you can drive according to the amount of sound she can deal with that AFE sounds awsome or should I say the turbo sounds awsome around 2200-2500 rpm over that or under that and it's very hard to notice any difference, at least for me.

Thank goodness I have 3. 55 gears if I ever get one! :-laf

My wife hasn't said to much about the added noise... until I use my exhaust brake. Then she says it sounds like the noise is coming from the center of her head! :D

I would like to relocate my batteries (maybe at frame level behind the cab) and move the cannon forward to the front of the engine bay. Goal: more room for accessories and less noise.

Noise muffler

I got me one of those noise mufflers in my truck. It is in the middle of the dash and has buttons and knobs on it. I put these round shiny things in and push a button and turn a knob and it muffles all those underhood and outside noises.

And anyway , I really don't think my Mega Cannon is loud , anyhow.

After installing my AFE my new Lab. puppy would howl every time I got into the peddle a little but he got used to it pretty quick. I think it will take a little longer for the wife to stop howling. :)

SC - I'm laughing about that one! I'm afraid to put my dog in the passenger seat because of her tendency to piddle from intimidating noises!! I am completely stock except for the AFE I put on the other day - It does sound awesome! I am wondering what a 4" inch exhaust and the removal of the silencer ring will sound like now. :D Thanks to Mr Bob for the fair price.

I removed my silencer ring for a few day's and the turbo whine was too much for me. Sounds much more bearable with the ring back in.

Wife is even getting used to it!

Maybe i should do that, and then see what she says. when i put it back on then she would probably live with it, somewhat happily. I've grown accustomed to it now, its not so bad.

no noise from the back seat...

if my wife were to complain about the noise from the AFE I would give her a couple of options...

1. sit in the back seat

2. get some ear plugs

3. or stay home... :D

hhhmmm... good thing I don't have to worry about her reading this... :D

Hey Jeff,

Now be nice on Valentines Day.

I might have to show Missy how to access TDR so she can keep an eye on you... ... :--)

Besides, she told me she likes the noise of the Mega Cannon because it sort of drowns your voice out... :D

There's always a smart as* in every crowd... :D

There's no doubt about it... I'm getting an AFE Mega Cannon system. But has anyone ever tried using the downtube (from the filter to the turbo) from a K&N system? I really never liked the factory Dodge corrugated flexi-looking tube. But I've always liked the smooth nice looking K&N setup. I just think the AFE would look and much better if they included a smooth downtube.

Maybe I outta just buy the K&N system and then replace the filter with the AFE cone. Dont get me wrong, I like K&N products... but I just like the AFE filter a little better.

I almost feel kind of awkward using an AFE. I use K&N filters in pretty much everything i own. My dirtbikes, cars, trucks, the whole gamut. But i researched this and decided to go with the AFE, I'm happy with it, but i can't say that i wouldn't be with a K&N system either. Hell as long as its not that cheesy stock box i don't care.

I hacked the airbox out of my dirtbike housing. Its a dune runner so all a box does is trap sand in there and hold it for the engine to suck up. I cut everything out but left the brace structure for some support when landing jumps. Looks pretty tacky i will admit, i used a dremel and went to town on it. Its my little way of leaving my impression when riding... now some purple shock boots and a yellow seat cover, with goofy ears on my helmet and handlebar streamers and i'm set!

I've only had my truck for about 2 months now, and the first thing I did after reading these forums was pull the silencer ring. Then just the other day I built my own air charger with the same K&N filter that they use in their setup. Just used some 14ga. sheet metal we had kickin around at work, bent it up, and a few pop-rivets and some black paint and some door gasket and it looks just as good as the $250 ones and all it cost me was the price of the filter... . $84. WOW..... now it is loud... that turbo really screams when you get on the pedal, thinking I might just have to put the silencer ring back in... . NOT!!!!!!!:D :D
