Do any of you guys who run the AFE Mega Cannon air filters on your trucks have a problem with the oil on the filter media draining to the bottom of the filter? I know that the only way to mount the filter is on it's side but ever since I have been running this AFE filter, right after a good cleaning and light oiling on the media, it all soaks to the bottom of the filter and I have to rotate it 180* to get the oil evenly distributed on the media. I barely put any oil on the media, just enough to turn the un-oiled, dry media blue with the oil but after about a good week or so of driving I have to rotate the filter cuz all the oil soaked into the bottom(other) side of the filter. Anyone have these same issues with their filter?

Thanks, Joe

I haven't sound like the oil may be thinned for some reason I use k&n filter recharge kit on mine and work fine how does the oil come if in can set it up side down for a wile then shake it really good before using it kn kit is a spray can.

I'll have to try that with the next can. I just used up the little bit in my last can last night. That is a very good possibility that it did thin out and I didn't shake up the can enough.

Thanks, Joe

I think the best way is to let the filter sit for a bit of time on the bench to let the oil wick in properly before putting it on the truck. (K&N directions call for a 20 minute soak)I also think the AFE oil works a bit better.

I have an AFE Stage I conical filter. I bought 2 filters. I remove the dirty one and put the pre-oiled one in the truck. I take the dirty one and clean it then let it dry on the bench for at least 1 day. Then I oil it and let it dry on the bench for at least one day. I put it away until the truck filter is dirty again and repeat the process.

This way I ensure that I have a clean dry filter before its oiled and it sits long enough for the oil to wick into the element and not get sucked into my turbo.

I'm a little paranoid about getting the oil into the engine and turbo. Just my 2 cents.

That is a habit of mine to make a good day out of cleaning the air filter and letting it sit after cleaning as well as oiling. I think the can of oil I used had just thinned out somehow, it was somewhat old and I may have not shaken it up very well before applying the oil.

I'll remember that next time I clean my filters :) ..... shake the oil first to mix, then apply. I'm using the aerosol can. I've only oiled mine twice in a year so it's time for me to get more oil. I use AFe in my truck and a drop in AFE in my Safari van.

Well, I spent a good couple hours cleaning and letting the air filter dry last night. Oiled it up right before bed after it sat about 3 hours in front of the fan. The oil I used from my brand new kit seemed to be much more dense than the oil out of that old can I used previously. I shook the hell out of the can before spraying the media and after letting it sit all night, it has so far stuck to the media very well and hasn't drained to one side or the other. I sat the filter on the top then the bottom to get the oil evenly distributed if it did want to soak to one side but it looks good so far.

So, maybe keeping the can out of excessive heat, like sitting in the sun as well as giving it a good shaking before application keeps the oil from separating or thinning out and causing the issue I was having. We'll see though, got a good road trip this Saturday to try it out with some down time to see if the oil will go to one side or not, but I think my issue may be solved. :)
