I'm gunna do it! I've decided to get one or the other (thanks alot guys. My wife is going to kick my ass and it's all your fault!).

Which one though? Scotty II is appealing because it looks like the intake will be cooler air from both wheel-well and cowl. But I'm not convinced I want to drill a hole in the cowl. The AFE looks like a good solution all around.

Throw it at me. I'll figure it out.

Well all I can say is that I have no regrets going with the Scotty II.

My wife has never complained about the added air sound in the cab. This weekend I'm putting the Tag in the turbo that I got from the group purchase that was on here last week. It is reported to quite the cowl hole down. But like I said it isn't that noticeable even under heavy load pulling my 12,000lb 5vr. My egt's are down 150* fully loaded on a long hard pull 6% grade. I never pulled the silencer ring for I hear enough tubo whine in my big rig pulling 105,500lbs of truck trailer & high priced fuel.

No regrets with the Scotty II here either. If you have a decent little stereo then you won't hardly notice the turbo whine of the cowl hole.

I ran mine just on the fender inlet for like 3 months, and just that was a solid 100* reduction over a BHAF. Once I drilled the cowl hole it gave me another 75*. Oo.

I actually like the extra noise from my Scotty II, The only part of it I didn't like, but it's no big deal now, is that the whole unit is self supported. It does not attach to the body anywhere instead it rests in the hole in the fender, and the inlet tube. I have zero complaints with it now. It was a little pricey, but worth it to me.

Scotty II

I've had both just the AFE and then the Scotty II without a doubt I'd go ScottyII with the 4. 5 hole just make sure to leave in the silencer ring.

Never tried the AFE. I like my Scotty II. I also cover the cowl hole when not towing. When covered the sound is the same as stock.

I did a Scotty II with cowl hole & TAG (with silencer ring). The TAG quietened it right down and gave me better spool on my KSB1B. I think the combination is as close to perfect as you will get.

GREAT air, a little compressor whine (hate to use the word whine now with the TAG, not really a whine, more of a slight soft gentle moan) so you don't have to check the rpm and mph as much. I use the compressor sound as much to drive by as any of the regular instrument cluster.

Scotty II and cut the cowl hole. If the turbo wine is too much, put the silencer ring back in and TAG it. Way lower EGT to play with for the next bomb.

I use an AFE filter and love it. But then again my wife and I love to hear the turbo spool up. I have never used a Scotty

I talked to the makers of the ScottyII today and found out that the old style pre-filter from AFE( thick foam) cut airflow by 75%. They have not tested the new thin version yet for airflow but will soon. The part # I have is for the new design. I didn't see any problems when I installed it. The part # are as follows and and I purchased them from Piers. See the price page.

The sock is the pre-filter and it's extra. Worth it to keep the large junk out of the filter and easy to clean.
