I just put this on yesterday so I cannot give much of an evaluation other than it was not much of a job to install and that it looks pretty good. There may be a very little more noise, but not enough to mention.

I think this mod will help keep my egt's down when towing. I do not expect much of an increase in power or mileage but I'll take it if it is part of the package.

This is another view showing more of the heat shield. I should mention that I would not have changed the stock filter yet under normal circumstances, it was not that dirty at all at 12 k. I am going to put the pre-filter on next week (it was an afterthought, and I just ordered it from Geno's).

I don't have the ProGuard7... . but I did recently install the original AFE system. I like the system and love the way it sounds. I haven't installed guages yet, so I'm unsure of its impact on temperatures. It seems to have slightly improved the throttle response, but then again it could be my imagination. I have also order a prefilter to install. Haven't learned how to attach pics ... . I'm going to have to get Dean to give me some lessons :) I do have pics of the system in my gallery... . feel free to check it out.

P. S. Dean... . Nice bed cover !!! :)

I know it's just an intake and won't be seen by many, but I was really impressed by the quality, fit and finish.

I'm a 3rd Gen novice, so bear with me...

In the 2nd picture that Dean posted (close-up of the aFe... ) there looks like a little electrical sensor on the metal pipe just before the 'airbox'...

Is this IAT? Please tell me that the 3rd Gen trucks do NOT have MAF... . !!!

Matt

Gotta love the speed-density simplicity.

They're getting some pretty good efficiency out of these things without needing the MAF for finite fuel trim.

Dean,

Told you you'd like it. Easy to install, nice looks, and hopefully excellent protection. I just wanted to pop up and say that I'm PRETTY SURE you DON'T need a prefilter with the PG7. I think it's extra layers of filter negate the need for the pre filter. Might want to check with Geno's or AFE. I'm pretty sure you can save your money on that deal.

Later,

Andy

Andy,

UPS has my pre-filter, if I don't like the looks of it I will send it back to Geno's. I talked to them about it and it was pretty much of a toss up as to wheather or not I would need it because it is not real dusty around here. I'll be down in your state in April and maybe it will keep insects and small birds out of the turbo:D .

You were right, easy to put on, looks great and should be the ticket. Thanks.

Dean

I like the AFE7 system, have had it on about 6,000 miles, but am now pulling the the spring loaded restriction monitor down about 2/3rds of the way at WOT. (since I put the Volumizer box on) I cleaned the filter and it still does it... so it may be a little more restrictive than the original AFE.

Dean,

Be sure to let me know when you're coming to TN. It's likely that we'll be having a local chapter meeting in April. Maybe we can schedule it around your visit. :) It'd be a treat to have a real Yankee around :D :D... . Just joshin' ya. ;)

Take care,

Andy

Damn it, now I've got to go buy one of those. Oh, the poor luck.

The shame, the shame.

Off I go to the telephone! Woo hoo!Oo.

This is the pre-filter installed. There is no reason that you could not remove/install whenever you wanted to, just like putting on your socks;) . I got it from Geno's in two days, priority mail.

I have the original AFE filter on mine but I'd like to upgrade to the PG-7. Can someone post the part number so I can order the right thing? Thanks.

I think it is: " AFE72-90009- Replacement Filter Only - '03 Trucks $71. 66", Geno's catalog #42, page 9. This is not the drop-in replacement.

You won't need a pair of socks, one will do;) . I poured a little water on the sock today just to check it out and it seems to shed water like a duck. I doubt that water would be much of a problem, but it's nice to know. I will have to check it out for crustaceans and barnacles next time I am at the beach:rolleyes: .
