Just wondering how much of a difference a person would see between AFE replacement filter or the Stage 2 Intake kit with torque Tube?

Had AFE stage 2 on the 05, but Personally I think all it did was make more noise than anything... . Do you guys think that it helps? Do you think it does more than just the replacement AFE filter for the stock air box?

OEM replacement should keep you happy up to around 350rwhp.

Stage 1 is good up to about 450rwhp.

Stage 2 good for 450-600rwhp.

Can't say for the AFE drop-in Filter, but I went from a K&N drop-in to an AFE PG7 stage 1 on a stock truck with guages and saw a difference. The spoolup on the turbo was greatly improved and the EGTs dropped somewhere around 50 degrees, but not over 50( this is on a hard pull with 10k of gravel on the trailer). You may see a little performance by the seat-o-pants meter. The one downside to an AFE stage 1 is increased turbo noise in the cab. Now that is on my 02 24v. The filter is near the firewall. The 3rd Gen trucks is up near the grill so it might not be as bad on them. I would not waste my money on a drop-in filter. Either go with a BHAF or AFE stage 1 or 2 or equivelent. There are many posts on here with the pros and cons on these filters. Overall I am pleased with my AFE and like the ability to clean it. Like Mark said, do not buy one of these filters for a performance upgrade, because in the end there is very little if any performance to be gained from these.

IF i put a AFE drop in replacement opposed to the whole AFE stage 2..... How much of a Difference is there from an Drop in to a Stage 2?

Even If i plan to leave the truck stock... Would the Stage 2 do anything for me?

If you plan to leave the truck stock, the stage 2 will give you nothing but faster spoolup and maybe a small decrease in EGT(50 degree or less). You might even see a fuel milage increase, but not much if any.

MY opinion is that ALL oiled filters suck they ALL pass dust and oil. If you have your heart set on one get the biggest one you can cause the more surface area the less pressure per inch of media and the less dust and oil you find on your comp wheel. Get it more filter area less pressure/less push on the oil and dirt to go through it.

I am un happy with my BLUE AFE(Local vendor twisted my arm into it I showed Up with the money for a used PRO 7 he was supposed to hold for me so he sold it and dupped me into the cheaper 4 layer for more $ than the used 7) its deffinitly better than my drop in K&N I had before it but the best one is the AFE progaurd 7 kindof a brown/green looking one get it if I was you.

Also no need to get stage2 stage 1 is just as good if not better-Less$
