Afe stage 2 intake

Does Smarty sw1 kill ecm's?

What is your fella's take on this? The Scotty II has GOT to go, and is for sale to whoever is interested... $150, obo. I think the SII would work great w/ a quiet HX40 or stocker turbo, but with this friggin' SCREAMING B1, it just doesn't cut it for 14 hours at a time.

So, on the AFE, money not being a concern, what do you go with? The stage 1 or stage 2? I have read some concerns about the new tube for the Stage 2 not fitting correctly and hitting the alternator... this true? Would it be even more of a problem w/ my B1 turbo? Is there any major advantage of the S2 vs. the S1?

Oh, and it will have a PG7 filter no matter which one.

I run the stage I on my truck, & when the boost kicks up it sounds like a jet engine.

I work with a guy that drives an 02, except he has the standard output w/ automatic. He has the stage 2 with the intake tube and I thinks its quieter than mine, and I didn't see any fit problems. He has the stock turbo. The stage 2 is more enclosed, but the top of the stage 2 filter is made to allow air through. My stage I has a rubber top.

I've been running the Mega Cannon (now called Stage 1?) for over 50K. The filter is the one that preceeded the PG7, and has filter media in the end, where the PG doesn't. I've also got the Pre-filter, but I took it off after a very respected vendor told me he lost a few hp on the dyno with it. I'm never in real dusty conditions, but do live on a one mile gravel road. With the prefilter on, the original color of the aFe didn't even discolor, and with it off, the filter media has turned kinda dark brown, but with absolutely no build-up. Never any evidence of dirt in the tube or turbo. I've never cleaned and re-oiled it... . doesn't need it. Just brush out the pleats every time I change my oil if there's anything there. Dodgezilla turbo whine/noise is negligable.

From what I can see, it looks like the Stage 2 is almost twice as expensive as the Stage 1. Based on my experience I can't see the cost justification. I'm convinced the installed prefilter does a great job if you need it, and I wouldn't even buy the PG7 if I was doing it over.

You might want to block off the cowl hole you had with the Scotty to reduce turbo noise. Might not be necessary with the Stage 2 since it's an enclosed unit.

Sorry, forgot to post in here, but the Scotty II was sold last night.

Mark Craig... thanks for all the great info! Now, for the one question I have yet to have answered:

are there still problems w/ the new "tube" on the Stage 2 setup hitting the alternator, or it's wiring?

And, where does the Stage 2 pull it's cool outside air from? Just the outside port on the passenger side fenderwell? There will be no hookup to a hole into my air duct again. I'm just wondering how that enclosed box will flow enough air to keep my 450RWHP and sooner or later 500 RWHP engine cool (well, cool to a degree... nothing can keep up with it at this altitude).
