So what is the scoop on these. I have an opportunity to by one of two used ones. Both are in good shape. I never thought about getting one until one local guy here said he had great results and loved the sound it made.

Do they filter good? Will it help EGT's?

Yes they do! just make sure that what you are getting is the PG7 (Pro Guard 7) They will help egt about 100 deg. They also make the turbo a little more whistler. Some peeps like the sound some don't I personally love it.

I LIKE the extra whistle from the turbo that is more noticable now. The Pro Guard 7 filter is highly recommended.

My wife and a niece both claim that after installing the stageII, my truck sounds like a jet plane. I was contemplating removing the silencer ring also but decided to wait until I get hearing aids. :D

Does it filter better or flow better? I don't see how it could do both.

The ProGuard 7 is the only oiled filter that I recommend because of the 7 layers of media. It really does filter well for an oiled gauze media.

Does it flow as well as K&N or similar cotton gauze with fewer layers? Probably not, but that's the trade off of having extra layers... . filtration will be MUCH better.

The AFE Stage II is known to whistle more than other intakes and it has been somewhat verified that the reason being is because of the large 6 inch intake opening in which the filter mounts on.

The one I bought does not have the PG7 filter. Should I upgrade to that?

Immediatly. The original filter has a lot more whistle but the PG7 has the filtration.

I have not picked it up yet. It is a used system and he has an extra new filter. I will call Rip at Source and pick up a PG7 to go with it. I probably won't install for a couple weeks.
