I installed an AFE intake tube and filter about 2 years ago. While changing the oil the other day I removed the intake tube (to gain access to the oil filter) and the rubber connector that connects the plastic tube to the turbo broke. It appears the heat from the turbo dried out the rubber and made it brittle. The upper connector that connects the plastic tube to air filter is fine.

Has this happened to you guys? Is there a replacement part number? Guess I just need to contact AFE for a number... .

Very interesting..... I would like to hear from others as well. I have the same set-up, and that has been one of my concerns since day one. I have no issues... Yet?

AFE had a problem with a bad batch of those couplers. Were not as heat resistant as they were supposed to be. Contact AFE direct, or your distributor, and they will make it right. I called them when it happened to me and I had a new one in 3 days... ... ... . no charge.

Coupler

I bought a torque tube used on ebay a couple of weeks ago and the coupler was also brittle and cracking. This is scary, as the small pieces go directly into the turbo... anyway I went to NAPA and they carry a line of products to make your own high flow intake - you can buy elbows, clamps, couplers, etc. I bought the 4" coupler for $12 and it works fine. I think this Napa line was meant for the rice burners, but it is perfect for this application.

Connect from turbo to tube

AFE part# 05-00715

this is what came with a kit I just installed a few weeks ago, it is a different material than what connects tube to box.
