Before, I had a stock airbox with an AFE drop in. The turbo sung real well. I installed the Magnum box with a proguard 7 filter. My turbo seems to be quieter. Is this normal? It does make my Pac Brake sound cooler.

I too have the AFE air box. However I've been told a couple different times and by different people that the oil type filter is bad for my engine. I don't know personally if that's true but I thought you should know.

There is a MARKED reduction in turbo whine between the AFE Magnum Force filter and the Pro-Guard 7. This is comparing the 2 filters in the MegaCannon intake system.

Personally I miss the whine :( , but not the sand I found in the intake hose running the Magnum force filter. ( I searched till I was blue in the face looking for leaks. Could'nt find any)

Didn't realize the AFE's were the only good ones.

I ran a drop in K&N in my '95, for 218,000 miles, now it's someplace in Sweden, still running.

I just switched from the drop in to the aFe Magnum Force. I have noticed about a 75 degree redution in EGT's and is much quieter (go figure). My filter minder has been sucked down 30 percent every time I've checked it (the filter is spotless). It seems like it's not flowing as well as the aFe drop in filter. -John

It's the K & N oiled filter you were warned about, not the aFe.

Actually, Mark at TST is the one who warned me about any oiled filter. Does AFE make an effective dry filter that exceeds the OEM?I'd like to get some use out of this air box.

I think Mark is a retired Cummins engineer and Cummins folks tend to like paper filters. aFe doesn't make a paper filter that I know of, just the ProGuard 7 for most uses and the freer flowing filter (the nomenclature escapes me) for racers that don't worry about filtration too much.

I had the K&N on my 95 CTD and thought it was great with better air flow, - until I found all the dirt that got by it into my turbo. :(

I just installed the aFe Pro Guard 7 on my 03. It seems to be a much better quality product. I am happy with it so far - time will tell.

well all i can say is w/ my mega cannon and pro 7 w/ torque tube there is a HUGE difference in turbo whine on mine. (increase in noise that is). also i think imho afe makes a great filter.

Mark: The report you posted is lacking substance, in that he/they left out most of the data that I'd like to see: values associated with "higher" flow, the "other two vendors" products, etc. I'm not intending to slam you or the person(s) who did the test, but most of us would much rather see numbers and data from the tests (although the silicon counts were nice to see for once!)

AFE does manufacture the best (hi-po) air filter on the market in my opinion.

Puts other filter manufactures quality to shame!
