Jacobsen exhaust brake adjustments?

How has everyone been? auto transmission questions

I was looking at "bigexhaust.com" they have a complete 4" system for dodge trucks for $279.

Anyone have good or bad experience with this company?

I have the complete 4" in my garage ready to go on 2/17/03... Also I have a 5" chrome turndown to finish off the job. The system is 14 gauge tube... and so far it looks like a good system. I can tell you more Monday afternoon of what I had to go thru to install it.

Rick,

Are the hangers prewelded? Please let us know how it goes. I definitely need to upgrade my air in/out problem. Mike

RHARVEY,

I will defineatly be wait for the turn out of this exhaust system. Please bring this thread back to the top and let us know even if it gets buried over the weekend.

SMOTE: I have the 4" w/o the muffler and it sounds great :D :D

I was also very happy with how fast it got to my house, it took four days. It has been on 1 week now and i like it alot. The only thing that i'm not happy with is the tail pipe the bend is not the style that i would have liked, but that is not going to be a big deal. One of the guys on my fire department is going to help me cut and weld it the way that i want. I'm not sure how i can explian it. The bend looks like it was for a daully if you know what i mean.

MSTIMAC: The hangers are prewelded. They did not use all of the stock hangers but once i got it all together it is nice and secure.

The only thing that i would suggest is that you dont try and do this job like i did. Ihad been awake for more than 24 hours so when it came time to cut one pipe to make it fit the short box i messured four times and still cut it 2" to short.

If you have a long bed this wont happen to you. I'm just glad that i didnt cut 4'' to much. :D

As you can tell i,m new to TDR and i,m not sure if this helps you guys.

Rob

PS. I wish you could see peoples faces when i pass them on the interstate at lets say 90 it is loud enough to wake the dead :D :D :D Around town i dont think that it is too loud.

oooooppppss!!

MSTIMAC: i don't know what i was thinking last night, but the hangers are NOT prewelded.

sleep deprivation really screws with your head. :-laf :-laf :-laf

what did you have???

Hay ffpara, did you have the stock exhaust on before, and was it stright piped??? And if so how mutch louder is it , and does it have a deeper sound ..... say like a big pet with duel 6" stacks:D I got to say if so, I got to get on on my truck soon,:-laf . that is just to cool. Justin

BigExhaust.com

I bought one of these systems, and they are a good value.

Here is the rundown:

16 Ga steel pipe: too thin for me. Causes the 'dreaded drone' at 1900-2200 rpm.

Muffler is NOT straight through, it is lower restriction than stock, but not a 'high performance' muffler

The hangers supplied to me were pre welded except for the one at the transmission xmember. They are the 'U'bolt type clamps with hanger bars welded to them. I prefer the SS band clamps for the actual clamping of pipes to mufflers etc.

The tailpipe has numerous bends, and fits up nice and high near the bottom of the bed. I doubt if it has any more restriction than a simpler design with fewer bends unless you are pushing more than 500 RWHP.

All in All a good value, but maybe not the best on the market. I would recomend Rip Rooks setup over the BigExhaust setup since he can supply various different high performance mufflers and band clamps.

Previous 4"

Hi Ryan, yes I had 4" from behind the transmission, but I wanted a 4" downpipe, and another 4" large muffler. I assumed that from the size and shape of the BigExhaust muffler that it was a straight through high performance muffler. I was wrong.

I installed the whole system at first, but the thin pipes droned too much. I replaced the long horizontal section with a length of 12 Ga pipe to get rid of the drone.

I 'm using the BEx hangers and down pipe, and for a while the muffler in tandem with my Allied 4" straight through muffler.

I'm still experimenting with how to get a free flowing 4" system without in-cab noise. I will probably go with a single muffler or muffler-less for Muncie this year, depends on which turbo ? I end up with. I may not be able to stand the drive to Muncie if it is too loud :)

Hey Justin my exhaust was stock before and not straight piped. So anything would have been louder. My new 4'' is more like a toy poodle trying to out bark your 6'' German Shepard. :-laf :-laf

Sorry about that PET, I ment Peat, as in a peaterbuilt semi with 6" stacks I should of read over my stuff:( o'well But is it got that deep soud to it?? And what is you overall impression of it?? Justin

Ex System?

If I were you talk to Rip Rook on nwbombers.com. He has a great 4" system UNDER 4bills and EVERYTHING is included. It is 14 gauge mandrel bent sounds great, but not to loud. Thanx Eric

PET

Justin:

Overall it is a good system, the quality appears to be good.

I do like the sound that it makes WOT people definitely know i'm there when i pass them. it seems to have a throaty sound at about 2000-2500 rpm. The little women and i are going to Colorado this spring so we will see if the drone is more than i can take after that. For now i like it. the only thing that i didn't like about it was the tail pipe. I was able fix that easy enough. I cut about 3-4 feet off, and used the straight piece that was left over from cutting one of the parts so that it would fit the short box. By cutting it down i removed three bends which gave it a little deeper sound i think? Or maybe its just in my head.

This is my first BOMB and I'm happy to be getting started.

All of the information that you guys have is invaluable and i'm still leaning everyday.

I do know one thing I think that I will be getting a second job so that I can continue BOMBing.

Its still probably like a toy poodle vs german shepard :-laf :-laf
