93 to a 94-97 tack problem?

Newby Gunna Need Sum Help!

Hey dasyure, in your signiture you mentioned a liquid aftercooler instead of an intercoooler. I heard the previous mention of why what everyone is using is not an intercooler. How does the liquid aftercooler work and where did ya all get it?

You also show some pretty awesome HP and torque ratings for your FordCummins. Really curious as to how you came up with them.

thanks,

It's kinda like a heater core in a steel case water is pumped thru it by the engine and the turbo outlet hooks up to one side of the case intake to the other side take a look at my pics posted at https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22972

As for the numbers they came from the paper shied diesel gave me after they dynoed the truck and they said they had to stop when the egt hit 1350 (thats what I told them to do) but it was still pulling hard. I plan to get it done localy again after the water injection is finished

Hey Dasyure,

Where did you get your water cooled aftercooler and is it working as good as you would like it to. My burb has the biggest, most efficient radiator that will fit in a stock location and does real well at my current level of bombing but I don't want to overload it... It's still quite a bit smaller than a stock 94+ Dodge radiator. The worst temps I've seen are 210 pullin a hill with a load. I'm afraid that a water cooled aftercooler would dump alot of heat into a cooling system that might be at it's limit already. If you had it to do over again would you go with water to air or air to air?

The aftercooler came from a freind of the guy I over paid for the cummins it was new in a cummins box for $150 thats why I got it, well that and cutting holes and mounting - pluming in a intercooler didn't look fun.

wish I new if the intercooler would keep egts down better I think after I get the water injection finished the egts will be no problem and boost mpg allso

more heat probably I never have seen over 195 but Im using the stock ford diesel radiator just playing around I added a 2' by 2' radiator in front of the a/c condensor that the engine coolant goes thru before going to the after cooler trying to get lower intake air temps which it did by about 30 deg didn't realy notice any differances in egt

Untill someone shows me that the egts would be a lot lower it just so much easier

I here ya. I've been looking at what it is going to take to plumb in an air to air aftercooler and its scaring me. That aftercooler of yours look real tempting.

If I were limited for space, I would go after the water cooler. I installed the Banks intercooler myself. Not much work. Especially you guys who have done your own conversions. :D Someday I hope to attempt one.

Guess I better point out the cummins aftercooler is the part on the pass side of truck from the bolt flange over to the right the rest of it that bolts to the intake is what I put together so I could use the original injector lines and that aftercooler wich is for a c series cummins.

Because my bumper take the place of the grill I would have room but there is no way a intercooler would fit with the grill in even if you cut all you could in thickness of the grill.

What about taking the deep ford plastic grille out and replacing it with an aftermarket tube or billet grille? Seems like this should give several inches of extra clearance. Probably would also have to move (remove) the extra transmission cooler and engine oil cooler to a different location.

Dennis.....

I'll be the first to admit I could be wrong

How thick is a intercooler

starting on the cowl where it goes straight down for a couple inches ther is 1 1/4" from back of #6 valve cover to the cowl, in front there is the recomended 2" from fan blade to radiator core, radiator is 3 1/2" thick, there is 1" btween the radiator core and the a/c condensor, the a/c condensor is 1 1/2" thick and lastly the front of the a/c condensor is flush with the front surface of the holes in the head light buckets the grill snaps into.

So can you cut the entire thicknes of a intercooler off the grill? I don't know.
