Transfer Case -- ATF vs Gear Oil

After searching the forums, I've read a lot about various exhaust suppliers. There's also a lot of reading about SS vs Aluminized Steel; and regarding SS, 409 vs 304. But is there a real difference in the wall thickness of the exhaust pipe tubes used? Some use 14 guage; some use 16 guage. Will these different thicknesses (approx 0. 08" vs 0. 065") affect an exhaust system's lifespan, sound, and corrosion resistance? My stock system is just about ready for relief, and I'm trying to get one that will last as long. Thanks in advance for your input.

Aluminized systems work well and will last a long time IF you do not live where they salt the roads. Mine still looks new after 2 years. Truth be told, they'll probably last as long as the body metal does if you're in salty conditions.

With your truck being ten years old now with aluminized from Dodge I am sure it will probably work for you again.

I vote for the MBRP sold by DPP - the spiral flow muffler is quite enough, but when the fuels'a flow'in - She growls pretty goodd :-laf

Hi. .

i'm thinking about installing the system that CF installed in his truck

{diamond eye 4" system } to help with towing, especially mtn grades, what i have now installed in my truck is DD fuel plate~injectors. . boost elbow. . DTT t. c. ~v. b... 14cm turbo. . gauges. . will the above system help with egt's???

thanks

dave

It should

It should help, I have not done any towing with mine yet. I installed a #5 plate at the same time, and the EGTs have stayed about the same though. I would expect the EGTs to go up a little with the plate and the stock system. I know there is very little backpressure, it is a strait through muffler. Sounds good, I had a compliment on the sound of it from a trucker buddy of mine. :D

I can let you know how warm she is getting by the last of the week, going to the mountains tomorrow, will be towing a car trailer, two ATVs, and several thousand pounds of building supplys.

MBRP and Magnaflow are much higher quality systems you won't end up with a bunch of broken hangers. Install is also much easier with those two.

Did well

I really had to back out of the corners on the hills I was pulling, very good power. It was hard to gauge where my EGTs were running as I only had a couple of two mile jaunts to open her up on. But, on those two runs, I brought her up to around eighty at wide open with EGT at 900-1000 post and 1250-1300 pre. It was a blast passing four wheelers pulling a car trailer, two ATVs, 2000# of cinder block, grocerys, clothes for a week, dogs, and 15 gallons of paint. Toooo much fun... . :D I couldn't get it any higher on temps, it held there solid. :D

I am betting the cost of a Magna flow or MBRP system are a hunk more than the Diamond eye too?

I dont think its more than than the MSBRP (from what i've seen) --

http://www.itpdiesel.com/DEDodgeExh59S.shtm -- About $389

MBRP aluminized - About $330-350 +/- (depending upon where you get it)

Pretty close though, I like the MBRP welded on hangers and the band clamps

Longest part

Was the tearing off of the old system. I was done in about three hours, I am getting old though, and geting hard to crawl under the old truck. Have to put a lift in the new shop. The line up was not hard, had to roll the turbo elbow just a tad, and had one weld on the tailpipe hanger. All of the hangers were welded, just follow their instructions, I went with the stock location for the muffler, they recomend forward of this location cause of drone on some apps, I have no drone and line up was great. :D

The band clamps would be a plus, but I plan on welding all my joints except for pre and post muffler. Not a lot of backpressure here, not any signs of leakage anywhere, any bad joints would have shown a little soot after two weeks of driving. Price was $335 delivered. :D
