I have a 2011 and must now change the air filter. An I was wondering if an aftermarket air filter such as KN, will increase fuel mileage and will it cause any problems with the whole emission system? Anybody out there that has made the switch?

The new air filters are more than adequate. I switched my 03 back to stock after the new deep pleated filters came out. There is a good chance of dusting your engine with other filters. There have been a lot of posts on here about this and some one had test results that showed the stock air filter was the way to go. I plan on leaving my 2012 completely stock. When it comes to mileage, I just suck it up. A lot of guys are doing the DPF delete etc. and claiming wild gains. Some that I know are saying "maybe" 2 mpg gain. It takes a lot of driving to recover the costs and than there is warranty considerations and emissions testing etc. etc. Just my . 02.

Use a piece of screen door screen instead of a K&N filter. It's cheaper and will provide the same performance and fuel mileage increase (none) but costs a fraction of the price of a K&N. It has been reported here than either will trigger a CEL on a Gen IV truck and provide no benefit whatsoever.

absolutely... as others have said. . there is NO performance/fuel efficiency gain to be had by adding an aftermarket "performance" filter to your diesel engine. It only serves to hurt your warranty consideration if such need arises!.
The Fleetguard pleated filter does a more than adequate job.

I put a KN filter in my truck & it did absolutely nothing but take money out of the pocket for the price of the filter, NO BETTER PERFORMANCE OR MILEAGE. Went back to the OEM filter.

Thanks for your replys. I had the air package and EZ box on my 2003, but I was planning on leaving my 2011 stock. Your replys have just reinforced my plans. Happy with everything about the truck compared to my 2003.
