What is the best or considered the best aftermarket air intake to get for a 2011?

I have a 2001 that I put a stageII afe on and it works awesome. Just wondering what route I should take on the '11. Thanks Terrance

What is your goal?

If you have too much money and want to throw away some take your choice. Several choices will satisfy your need. If you want to set codes and have a red check engine light in your instrument panel one of the aftermarket manifolds will be perfect.

that was so helpful. Why is it that anymore when a guy just wants some advice on something he has to go through all the smart arces first. If u need to know my goal is to help millage. buy the way don't tell me that i got to get ride of the dpf to gain millage. I want more than that if possible.

I guess I should have said aftermarket cold air intake not air intake. Why would changing the air box send a check engine light?

I agree with Harvey on this one.

Dodge has actually done an excellent job on 3rd gen and newer trucks with the stock intake. The stock setup is all the air you need for at least 450 rwhp, and is code free. I know from personal dyno experience that an AFE Stage II did zero to a stock HPCR motor.

Some, not all, trucks do not respond well to aftermarket CAI's, they set codes becuase the MAF sensor see's too much air at the wrong time. I have a buddy with an '11 going thru this right now, and he had to add a pre-filter sock to the filter to reduce the flow enough to reduce (not eliminate) the setting of the code. . and the pre-filter killed is bottom end performance.

Colder air will likely decrease your fuel economy. One of the reasons Dodge went to a smaller intercooler in 2008 was to increase the intake air temps, to reduce regenerations required and improve mileage. If you cool the air down you run cooler EGT's and that means more frequent regens.

So the best rule of thumb is 100% stock, or mod it all. . A CAI is a waste of money and could be a headache. .

If you still insist on running one then I have heard good things about S&B.

Thanks That is the info I wanted to know. I did do some more research on this and found out the same thing u just told me. I think I will leave it stock. Again thank u for the info

Yep, leave it stock. I had an AFE unit on my truck and with a clean filter and the chip on level five(edge that I used to use) I could make the overhead consule chime and show to "service the air filter". Went back to the stock box and added a home made cold air ramp to the bottom of the box, and I have never seen the "service air filter" warning in about 40,000 kms now and I don't have oil and "dusting" in the intake tube anymore. That says something for the increased air flow that we are supposed to get through our wallets!?

If/when you start looking towards 500+ rear wheel horsepower, look at an S&B intake.

I hope everyone reads this thread and understands why I call Harvey on his BS.

Here he's not exactly incorrect, but he's an *** just for the sake of being an ***.

The new trucks don't require it, and will do nothing but cause you grief, leave it bone stock.

The OP was looking for more MPG, not 500+ hp, Harvey did the guy a big favor, caused him to do more research, and saved him a few bucks

Harvey is an arse, and that's just life around him. . sometimes a golden nugget comes out, but it still shaped like a turd, even if accurate. I don't think his post did anything by annoy the OP, go back and read each post...

Fishell, if I had a 6. 7, I would most likely keep it stock. The 5. 9, like the one in my truck... that's a different story!!

Keep it stock and save your money. The 3rd gen has all the air it need. I did put an air pick up from the botton of the air box so it could pull more air. I could not see any change.

I had all the air I needed at 350-375 rwhp with a 100% stock box until I did the cam, that took some more air. . But with the cam/turbo the stock box and Home Depot CAI only has a . 2 psia drop from ambient. when I am WOT at 3000 rpms

Yeah, sure... it's ALL Harvey... he's the Cummins prophet, the diesel savior...

What Harvey did was spit out an angry little rant and annoy the poor guy. There's a difference between:

"Hey, you might want to reconsider going for a cold air intake - they don't seem to offer any benefit over stock until you start pushing lots of air through your engine. "

and

"Don't be a moron. Dodge and Cummins employ the smartest engineers in the world and they know what's best for your engine. "

Which is exactly the tone I've taken from several of Harvey's posts.

Harvey is like my parts guy - he knows a fair bit because he's been around forever, but that doesn't mean he's not an insufferable prick most of the time.

I for one choose not to inflate his ego in the hopes that maybe he eats some humble pie and becomes a helpful resource instead of an antagonistic jerk.

I am glad that U all agree that this Harvey guy is just a dick, but it's not a big deal just ignore him and other folks will chime in and give the advice that is needed. Thanks to all that told me to leave it stock. That Is what i needed to know, not some smart *** comment from someone that thinks hes god of the mechanic world. That Pisses me off. Anyhow I will get off my high horse.

No He did not cause me to do more research. He just told me to wait tell someone else gives some feedback. But u can think what u want. This isn't my first rodeo

"U all agree?" Can you read?

No one agreed that modifying your airbox would be a benefit to you. One axxhole agreed that he doesn't like me but even he gave you the same answer.

Harvey it's the words you use, not the answer you give...
