I agree with Harvey on this one.
Dodge has actually done an excellent job on 3rd gen and newer trucks with the stock intake. The stock setup is all the air you need for at least 450 rwhp, and is code free. I know from personal dyno experience that an AFE Stage II did zero to a stock HPCR motor.
Some, not all, trucks do not respond well to aftermarket CAI's, they set codes becuase the MAF sensor see's too much air at the wrong time. I have a buddy with an '11 going thru this right now, and he had to add a pre-filter sock to the filter to reduce the flow enough to reduce (not eliminate) the setting of the code. . and the pre-filter killed is bottom end performance.
Colder air will likely decrease your fuel economy. One of the reasons Dodge went to a smaller intercooler in 2008 was to increase the intake air temps, to reduce regenerations required and improve mileage. If you cool the air down you run cooler EGT's and that means more frequent regens.
So the best rule of thumb is 100% stock, or mod it all. . A CAI is a waste of money and could be a headache. .
If you still insist on running one then I have heard good things about S&B.
that was so helpful. Why is it that anymore when a guy just wants some advice on something he has to go through all the smart arces first. If u need to know my goal is to help millage. buy the way don't tell me that i got to get ride of the dpf to gain millage. I want more than that if possible.
I guess I should have said aftermarket cold air intake not air intake. Why would changing the air box send a check engine light?
If/when you start looking towards 500+ rear wheel horsepower, look at an S&B intake.
I hope everyone reads this thread and understands why I call Harvey on his BS.
Here he's not exactly incorrect, but he's an *** just for the sake of being an ***.
The OP was looking for more MPG, not 500+ hp, Harvey did the guy a big favor, caused him to do more research, and saved him a few bucks
Keep it stock and save your money. The 3rd gen has all the air it need. I did put an air pick up from the botton of the air box so it could pull more air. I could not see any change.

I am glad that U all agree that this Harvey guy is just a dick, but it's not a big deal just ignore him and other folks will chime in and give the advice that is needed. Thanks to all that told me to leave it stock. That Is what i needed to know, not some smart *** comment from someone that thinks hes god of the mechanic world. That Pisses me off. Anyhow I will get off my high horse.
"U all agree?" Can you read?
No one agreed that modifying your airbox would be a benefit to you. One axxhole agreed that he doesn't like me but even he gave you the same answer.
