A friend of mine has a '99 and is tired of a slipping converter. He is thinking about just biting the bullet and going for broke..... he wants to replace his stock auto trans with a BD transmission. This is a really beefed up trans throughout... . all heavy duty inside. It also carrys a very expensive price tag$$

He feels that only changing the converter and valvebody is doing it half way and the guts of the trans is still stock. He is only running a VA right now. Does anyone have any experience or comments on this? I appreciate any and all feedback I can give him. Thanks!!:)

We here on the board could hook him up with Massdiesel who is in your neck of the woods and could get the full www.dieseltrans.com treatment using his transmission. They address all the bad stock componets and make mods to the rest, I bet he can beat the price by a bunch over a full replacement (he is very reasonable). If no one chimes in here with his number you can do on of two things, you can call DTT and ask them for his number or you can PM me or have him E-mail me -- email address removed -- and we'll get them hooked up. He really needs to ride in an equiped truck to get the full effect of the difference, tell him his jaw will :--)

i have a bd race transmission, but if all he has is a va it will most likely be over kill. a convertor and a vb will work just fine for him at that level. but if he buys the full blown race transmission it will last a long long time.

Massdiesels phone number: 508/528-6127.

Scott will treat your friend (and anyone for that matter) well.

Give him a call,

I have no preference in who evers product he ultimately chooses. If your friend is not going to install alot of horse power, more than 300HP, then a complete race transmission is over kill. I will tell you that any truck you drive with anybodys aftermarket products will perform circles around the stock transmission.

Thanks for all the responses... . I too felt that this was overkill. I suspect he was being misled a little by the vendor. I didnt realize that the BD trans is considered a race trans?

I don't know that the BD transmission is considered a race transmission as I am sure they have more than one set up that they sell. Tell your friend to do some looking around at all the options and make a decision based on what real folks say, not some slick advertising in a mag or a slick salesman. Maybe invite him over to look at the TDR with you and read a few threads.

I will say that I have a DTT transmission and around 400-450 hp and I have no problems. I would highly reccomend DTT's tannies and you can not beat there customer service.

I too was going through what your friend is. I went with the dtt transmission. I run a VA box and the difference is amazing. All I have to say is WOW!!!!!!

If your friend is going to do all the homework he needs to call ATS in Denver. Talk to Don Ramer or Clint Cannon. These guys are helpful and have another alternative to what has been the standard. The ATS triple lock torque convertor is something no one else on the market can match. After all the homework is done I wish him luck with whatever he chooses.

Challenger ,your friend is welcome to try my DTT equipped truck,i think he is about 2 hrs away ,its a long hauld, but i wish i had the opportunty to test the diferent configurations before i bought. Let me know if he's interested. Mine is set up for high HP,but is totally streetable,I like it.

Performance at last

I,too, had a slipping trans. :{ I gave the dealers 2 chances at fixing my truck; then I had it fixed!:D After driving a DTT equiped truck there was no question-I had to have it done. I just returned from a trip --central Texas to Tucson & Mesa Arizona & back. Towing was never this good, Oo. not even when it was brand new! I could not more highly recommend DTT. :D :D :D

Rd. Runnr, who did your DTT? I leave in Texas also and am considering a change. e-mail me at -- email address removed -- Thanks.

Snowman... . That is mighty generous of you!!:D I spoke with him last night and he is determined to spend more $$$$ than he needs to. He feels that with the BD trans he might be overkill but at least it will last the longhaul. I wish I had his money!!

Thanks again for the offer!

Alvin

Check your E-mail the info is there, call me if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer how my truck is to give you some examples of differences but driving is the trick to the knowledge.

Alvin, :) check your e-mail. There are lots of these DTT trans. equiped trucks running around, probably is one near you. Oo. Awesome performance--makes you want to :p at other trucks. LOL

BD Transmissions

Challenger II BD a race transmission? I guess I need to do some serious bombing and head for the track. I have a BD transmission with a X-series torque converter. I have never heard it called a race transmission. I tow a 5000lb travel trailer and use the truck as my daily driver. I am very pleased with how the transmission works and so far it has been trouble free. I have never driven a truck with a any other aftermarket transmission in it so I have noting to compare my BD too. I’ll go out on a limb here and say I think that you would be hard pressed to tell much difference in how the truck drives with most leading aftermarket transmissions. My BD does what BD says it will do. All I had to compare it to was a worn out stock transmission, from stock the difference is dramatic. I have said this before and I’ll say it again “the true test of BD or any aftermarket transmission is how long will it last”. Your friend is about to spend a whole lot of money, have him do his homework. I wouldn’t shy away from BD because someone said it’s a race transmission and it would be overkill. If you do the research I think you will find that BD transmissions are a well built and should give you miles of trouble free driving.

Can’t speak for their customer service, never needed it.

Fell free to PM me if you want any information Jeff:D :D:

the fact remaines the same---there is alot to be desired in the factory trans either stock power or mod. There is a few trans builders that that know what to do w/ the dodge factory problems & enhance ,durability, & performance at the same time. There will always be a battle between who is best & who isn't. I would personally recommend calling DTT or ATS to figure out exactly what your looking for. Otherwise---you will follow threads like this & waste alot of your time. Hope this helps---Proflow

Well..... I spoke with my friend to provide him with everyones feedback and he informed me thst he found out it is NOT a BD trans that was ordered. It is a Sun-Coast trans. The dealer he is buying it from said that this is a better Trans????

Time will tell!! I wish he would have done a little more homework. He will no doubt get a trans that will do the trick... . but he probably spent thousands more than he needed to.

This thing cost over 4k installed. :--) Thanks again to everyone for the advice. :)

Sun-Coast trans  Well, he can always go with the ATS, or BD, or DTT for his next trans  Listed In Alphabetical Order to avoid controversy. .
