This is my first CTD and am looking for honest opinions regarding "boxes" for my truck. This truck is will be my daily driver and will also tow a 38' 6K(dry and unloaded)LQ GN 14-20 times a year. I am mainly interested in something that is driver adjustable from the cab, won't smoke like a train :) , and doesn't "throw" codes. Not necessarily looking for max HP, as this is my daily transportation. Truck right now is bone stock. Any thoughts appreciated. Have seen many posts regarding boxes, but almost all trucks using them are slightly to highly modified. Most I plan on doing is adding gages, filter, maybe trans pan, and diff cover.

Thanks,

Mark

I like my van Aaken box, it raises the rail pressure moderatly. Improves power between 1600-2000, which is great for towing and I haven't had any problems with EGTs. It has an in cab selectable switch, off-50%-100%, but on 100% its hard to tell any difference from stock unless you floor it. Go to the bottom of this page and type van Aaken in the search box, there is alot out there on the subject and be sure to look at DLenos comparison of all the different boxes.

Do a search on Van Aaken. It's a good box but causes EGT problems on the 2004. 5. Don't know if there is a really safe box for 600 yet until timing can be handled better, except maybe for the TST PowermaxCR. It seems to work well on lower settings, lots of power, but difficult to remove for warranty work. It can be bought with built in gauges. Nice option. DLeno has fueling box summary. Follow this link, but be cautious because it's based on the 305/555 mostly. The 600's run hotter because of emissions changes.

BOXES

mlhertzog,

The VA are very nice boxes and are in cab adjustable. I have both the level I (pressure) and the level II (duration) boxes.

The level I does not do much to the EGT's, the level II box makes them jump like mad.

As stated above, the 1600-2200 rpm power of the VA's make them very good for towing.

Also, it's a quick job to remove them for your dealer visits.
