Competition Aftermarket Cummins heads?

Is there any aftermarket heads out there or is everyone running a stock head from Cummins?



What are the big dogs running? Are they just porting a stock head? or is there a better casting out there to start with? I have seen where Bd has cut the air side off and made a different manifold for it.

I have used 2 different casting numbers, but when they are done, they are identical in the ports.



As I mention in the other post, cutting the intake is a lot of work, and likely not worth it unless you are looking for the last 50 HP.

Here is the real story without the sugar coating! Cummins heads stink... ... ... ok everyone stop laughing but it is true, if you work real hard you can get one to flow a little over 200 cfm at . 500 lift and they fall flat on there face after that, bigger valves, not needed, the port is not big enough to support a bigger valve, the head is made to cool not flow and everything is in the way, push rod tubes, head bolt area, water jackets, the big boys(me too) make them work by pressurizing and that is it, this is the worst way of doing it but that is all we have to work with.

I have heard price quotes anywhere from $8000 to $20,000, for a good custom head.



I think if anyone could get them down around $3500, they would sell as fast as a wildfire burns in California.

I used a stock replacement head from Cummins (TUPY, Brazil) that I ported. Mine didn't smell too bad and I got a lifetime supply of them Oo.

I am currently looking for a replacement head to take the place of my that is severely cracked. (On the bench, not in the truck)



I have heard from a very unreliable source that the RV heads are better cast, and the flow more.



Can anyone confirm or deny this??



What type of valve seats are in them?

i said this about a month ago a custom aluminum or cast iron head from dart, eddlebrock etc. would sell like mad. They could probably build one an sell them for $3500 or less.



the question to answer is there enough demand?? i think so but thats not worth much.



my guess is that one day you will see an after market head.

If a guy could get a head for $3500. 00 and make it flow 300+ I'd look real hard at it.

It'll take some real deep pockets with a penchant for engineering, R&D and individuality to get this rolling. Banks, Edelbrock, Dart are you listening? Any others want to be the leader in this step of power progression for our mighty Cummins hobby/fixation?

Oo. Give us larger meat in the ports for porting & polishing, Give us slightly larger valves with better bowls to deal with, Oo. dont even consider giving us that dang restrictive intake to deal with either, after all that I wouldnt mind having to purchase an additional intake manifold that also flows like gangbusters to bolt to the side of the head. keep in mind we demand flow in the upper 300's to mid 400's with out falling on it's face.



Show us a head like this- and the wallets around this forum would be creaking open like an old barn door from coast to coast :-laf
