I own a 2006 with a 5. 9 and when I got the truck it had a 5 inch MBRP on it and it went bad and wasnt under warrenty as second owner. I took it to an exhaust shop and they put a new exhaust on it but that had a aweful drone. The next one they tried was a bit better but I still have an aweful drone at pulling RPM. Does anyone have a no kidding aftermarket exhaust that doesnt drone? Im willing to bolt on an entire new system from manifold back to solve this issue once and for all.

Appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

Believe it or not, what I found to alleviate drone was a Fluid Master harmonic balancer. I can't believe how much more quiet my truck is. So unless your exhaust is just too loud, you might consider the FD.

I installed a Banks cat back 4" exhaust on my truck. It had a drone when I first installed it. I moved the S. S. tip out 3" past the bumper to stop the soot on bumper problem, and the drone was reduced to an acceptable level with less than 20psi of boost. I think some times the drone is caused by the exhaust noise leaving out the tail pipe too close to the bed side. Thats my $0. 02 worth. :D

I had a 5"turbo back exhaust from BD that lasted just a couple yrs before the drone at certain RPM's. Called Flowmaster to ask about their Hushpower II muffler. Make a long story short, they sent me a muffler to test and only wanted an honest option for the new 5". Its been perhaps 4K miles and couldn't be happier, the drone is gone, not as loud when putting the wood to it. Only towed heavy once and no drone. It does have a pleasant sound when getting on it,but will not be as quiet as the OEM muffler. If I were to buy a muffler, the Hushpower II would be on my list.

I happen to have a stock system (4" with cat converter). I have a muffler from a big rig shop that has 3 expansion chambers, and is at least 3 1/2" inside diameter inside. . maybe 4"... it's half as loud as the louvered 4" muffler that was on it, with no drone and no difference in power.
The muffler didn't have any brackets, so I welded one on to it. I think it cost about $70.

Im leaning towards the resonator. It was suggested to me by a local shop and I just watched a few videos on youtube. Sounds like the make a big difference.

Appreciate the ideas!

Today I installed the FTE resonator. All I can say it WOW what a difference. 95% of the drone is gone. I can hear my stereo and other parts of the truck operate that Ive nver heard before.

I had done the Banks Monster dual Cat back kit on my 05. The kit never fit right and the tips were welded on and did not extend past the bumper. The drone was not too bad but I always had soot on both sides of the truck and bumper. The Y pipe cracked the other day. I gave Banks a call and was able to get a single pipe form them. I was able to save my muffler. What a diff having only one pipe and having it extend past the bumper the drone is almost 90% gone.

the 5 inch compared to 4 inch is something that I was said a few times while trying to find a solution. If i would have know that when I bought the truck I would have dumped the 5 inch right away. Until this one rots off Im happy with the FTE and for now I got rid Of the C-130 sound under my cab
