As the title suggests, I find 32 gallons to be inadequate. I have located a 50+ gallon replacement tank but know the "distance to empty" etcetera EVIC displays will be incorrect. Can the EVIC be updated to reflect the proper readings for the new larger tank?

I know its desirable to reprogram the EVIC to show actual miles to empty, but as is it'll show 32gallons as the calculation, then when it actually gets to 32 gallons, you'll see it start to drop. I hand calculate mine anyway.

I'd by the larger tank regardless if the EVIC reads the full 50 gallons or not.

EDIT: Or if it uses stock sending unit it will show percent and just drop more slowly. I don't know anyone who has installed an aftermarket larger tank.

Just another opinion.

Good luck and Cheers,

Ron

The fuel gauge will always show the correct percentage (whether it is 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%) with either the OEM tank or an aftermarket tank.

Why some folks get all torn up like a soup sandwich over DTE really, reallly, reallllllly baffles me. The few times I’ve even glanced at my DTE it was whilst towing, and horribly inaccurate at that. One minute it’ll show 40 miles DTE, I’ll pull into a fuel place about 5 miles later, and add 74 gallons to my 74 gallon tanks. DTE is almost as useless as teats on a boar hog....

Yep, I agree! When you been driving it a while, you know your range... my 112 gallons gets me 800 to 1200 miles. I NEVER let the primary go below 1/4 tank.

I am not sure what an AlfaOBD is. Is it an aftermarket code reader? To be honest, I'd be willing to go to dealership and let them do the adjustment with witech if available.

AlfaOBD is way more then a scanner, it is almost as capable as wiTech, you can do full diagnostics, enable and disable features, program TPMS and way more with it.
Check the forum, we have threads running about it.

The 50 gal Titan in my 03 just shows a full tank for 1/3 of the mileage range then starts going down with a fairly accurate DTE. I’m now looking at a ‘19 and adding 55gal Titan or order a ‘20 with OEM 50gal. I’ll figure out what my range is with good ole math

I also find 32 gallons to be inadequate and annoying, and am overly surprised at how much of a difference 3 gallons makes. What really made my mind up was the HUGE mpg hit I took at elk camp this year. My 05 would get 8-9 mpg on the slow dirt roads at elk camp, and the '18 was getting 5-6. When you're in the woods for 10 days that is a LOT of extra fuel to carry. I'll be putting a 55 gallon tank in this spring.

I have played with AlfaOBD and been able to change the tank capicty but it didn't have any effect on DTE. What it did was effect the fuel gauge, so I am guessing that at some quantity the Body Computer assumes 2 tanks and is looking for the 2nd tank sender. I need to play with it more to see what that volume is.

DTE has always been inaccurate and optomistic, especially when I go from town to towing, to dirt road, back to towing... so I am not sure why I want it to work.

I did take DTE off of my dash as a constant gauge, and really don't care that I can't see it anymore. It's not that hard to go off a fuel gauge and average mpg... and bladder size.

I've been using aux 60gal fuel tank/toolbox combo since 2002 Ram 3500. It's not just about range, cuz my bladder ONLY gives me about two hours at a time, but really like it for saving $ purchasing where cheaper and NOT worrying about filling up when I arrive, mostly at or near national parks.

I'm huge advocate for having extra fuel.

Cheers, Ron
