I have read some people say that an after market cooler will drop EGT's a bunch and others say that it won't make that big if a diff. when towing with a stock turbo.
I blew up my stock one and was forced to replace it. I am very happy with the banks kit. I have a tough time getting the egts above 1300 towing the boat up the hill from lake mead to boulder city. Juice on 3 going 60 mph (in a 45, I could go faster) ambient temps at 115 deg. water temp gets pretty hot though I will back off a little when it hits 215 deg I think I had it to 220 once outpulling a power joke towing a dinghy.
the stock turbo is still a restriction, to a degree, I think, but a quality aftermarket intercooler will help out a lot if you are towing heavy, I think
I suspect this is a question much like adding an aftermarket hood/scoop induction system - guys spending LOTS of money on a expensive goody will, more often than not, CONVINCE themselves there was a benefit, and it was $$$ well spent - whether it really was, or not! :-laf
dunno about egts, as soon as I turned the edge up the stock cooler blew the end off. I do know that this cooler will hold as much boost as I want to put through the head.
I am also on the fence and trying to decide which one to go with.
It wouldn't be hard to get a thermo gun and take temp measurements on the inlet and outlet side of the intercooler just after pulling off the freeway. I started doing that once but never followed through with the new cooler. I plan to do that before I get one and install it just to see what real world difference there is.
