well wondering if anyone has done this and how it works. I would like to tap into the top the the oil filter housing run a stainless line up to the cowl area I have a aftermarket raised cowl hood but bring the gauge up and mount it on the plastic between the wipers. dont know how much room this would take being able to still open the hood. I really dont want to bring a mechanical oil pressure gauge into the cab. dont know much about the electrical oil pressure gauges or how accurate they are. I know the factory needle does move around a bit and I know some have had a flash done and this makes the needle more of a dummy needle always in the same spot. mine doesnt do this but looking down the road would like a better proven way.

cricket cricket. so any ideas or pics of what others have done for a mechanical oil pressure guage and where it was mounted than. any problems leaks issues. I just want to mount it outside on the cowl plastic part. anyone

Over the years I've mounted several mechanical oil pressure guages on various gasoline powered vehicles from an air cooled VW van to a GMC schoolbus camper, all on or under the dash. I've never had one leak a drop.

other options elec. oil pressure gauge. help

well other options if I do not run a mechanical gauge I dont know much on electrical oil pressure gauges. are these accurate. do they have a tap into the same source. on top of the oil filter.

I have no issues with the oem gauge. On my other car - it only had a light - swapped the sender for the one that comes with the gauge and then mount & wire the gauge. 3 wires are 1-sender 2-ground 3-light. You would have 2 wires with your mechanical gauge anyway. Or install a tee to keep both. You will find all gauges will drop at idle, etc because the oil pump is rpm driven (by the engine)...

If you use a mechanical oil psi gauge, buy the copper tubing to plumb it with. The plastic that comes with the gauges is much more prone to leaks from chafing than copper.

Electric gauges have a small sender that sends a signal to the gauge. I can be just as accurate as a mecanical gauge. Just don't buy the cheapest import crap you can find. You may well find that with gauges you get what you pay for.

I'm using my attitude monitor to read oil psi off the factory sender on my truck. Even though the factory gauge is 100% worthless due to the screened signal from the PCM, the attitude monitor will read actual oil pressure from the sender. I haven't connected another gauge to check the accuracy, but I'm really not that worried about it.

thanks for the reply I will probley go with a electric gauge. I know what you mean I have done the cheap gauge thing in the past and you get what you paid for the next thing is with electric I can run it into the cab I was just trying to figure a cool way of mounting it on the outside cut out a spot on my raised cowl hood so you can see it but still be tucked under the rise spot. just thinking it would be different. thanks again for the input.
