Is there an aftermarket tach that will work with the stock pickup on my '97? If so, where can I get it?

My truck doesn't have a tach so I am starting from scratch.

Im with you, I would much rather use the stock pickup. It would make life a lot easier anyway. I have been looking for some time now for a tach I like. It is hard to find something to match my ultra-lites, and still works on a diesel.

Check out Isspro. . I had Mild to Wild Diesel in Silver City, NM put one of their tachs with black face with white letters and markings (with great lighting for night vision) on my '92 CTD. I don't know if he used the stock pickup or not, but I love the tach! I plan to put the same style Isspro pyro, boost, and transmission temp guages on a triple dash mount on my '97.

I talked to Isspro about my conversion. They were unsure if I could use the hall effect sender since I was not using the original PCM. The sensor is powered off of 8vdc and they did not know if the signal strength was high enough to reliably trigger the tach.

I ended up running off the stator terminal on the big Leece Neville alternator.

I have not delved into the problem beyond posting the question here, so what you guys are telling me is all that I know. I am currently concentrating all my resources on getting the beast (F350+CTD) running. At some point in the future I hope to rig a tach. Maybe by then someone will have discovered the simple solution to the problem.

Try Westach, made by Westberg Mfg. of Sonoma, CA. 1-800-400-7024

They don't list tachometers for diesels in their catalog but it is not a complete listing of their products.

Might be worth a call.

Autometer makes a tach for diesels that the sending unit some how works off of the altermator. I had one on a 6. 2 and it worked fine.
