thought I would share my experience with the aftermarket warranty company "CARS Protection Plus"... I bought an unlimited mile, 4 year warranty when I bought my CTD in April of 03 for $1800(for the warranty ;) ). I had no call to use it until 5th gear stripped off the output shaft, and gave cause to rebuild the transmission (5 speed manual). Following their procedure I took the truck to the shop, they were ready to do the repairs, would be able to have it ready in two to three days... I got the truck back 10 days later, after making several calls to the claims supervisor in order to get them to do anything on the claim. They of course have a rental car benefit, if your repair is over 8 hours in the mitchel guide, but dont provide any benefit while you are waiting for them to get their paperwork together, bounce forms back and forth with the service center, not call back, be on lunch (for several hours), put the repair center on hold for extended periods of time... . and when it was all done, they paid $1600 on $2400 bill (the deductable is $100), had a couple other "covered" repairs done at the same time. They wanted to send a rebuilt transmission from the east coast (5-7 business days for shipping alone), which I had to argue with them to get the current transmission rebuilt instead of waiting the additional week for the rebuild to arrive... . if it even worked.

Just last week I took my truck into a Cummins shop for a head gasket (covered component), the shop called it in like they i told them they needed to, got autorization, the end count was a head gasket, radiator, water pump, a couple front seals, harmonic balancer, and a couple gallons of coolant (all covered components except balancer and coolant)... the shop moved ahead with the required repairs, the truck was done while they were still bouncing paperwork back and forth when it slipped that the work was done... .

CARS called back within minutes and stated they were refusing the claim... . gave no reason, and promptly left the office for the day (called at 5:01PM, office closes at 5)

I have no mods... . unless you call a drop in k&n and a muffler that is MIA mods... . and there isno disclaimer on the contract for consumer modifications, the best that i can read 4 point text... .

The only thing I can figure is they just dont want to pay the $2800 bill... . and wager I will pay it so i can get my truck back (which I did), and they must be counting on me not taking the energy to file the proper paperwork with the proper agencies to get my money...

Oh well, off to the lawers we go

still love my ctd though, having the head off gave me a good time to put on a pyro though :-laf so i guess some good came out of it...

Not really, I bought it used @ 92K miles, and it apeared to have been used pretty heavily for towing, I use it for hauling horses all over the state... and currently have 145K miles on it (have had it about 18 months now), hasnt left me on the side of the road yet, that is a heck of a lot better than my 94 gasser that did just that 4 times in 6 months

I do love my CTD, just needs a little TLC once in a while, thinking about buying a 2500 ETH for the woman to drive, and as a town car ;)

yeh, I spoke to someone once about an extended warranty on my 3500 dually. She was going down thru the requirements list and got to trailer towing. She said they would not cover a vehicle that had a gooseneck or fifth wheel hitch on it. I told her to keep it. She couldn't understand why I would give up an extended warrtanty to be able to put a hitch in the bed. To this day I have been procrastinating doing it, but a gooseneck hitch will be going in within the next month. I mean come on, I did byuy a heavy duty truck to haul stuff. :D

I have the hitch already, just need to get the trailer myself... have been drooling over a 28' titan stock trailer for over a year now, somehow the $$ just seems to get diverted ;)

I was thinking about the parts I have replaced so far... transmission (rebuilt), set of rotors, LP, clutch master/slave cylinders, clutch, fan clutch, thermostat, radiator, water pump, head gasket, crank balancer... . 12 oil changes, a set of michelins..... also had a pretty bad power steering leak for a while but a little locktite on the cover bolts of the steering gearbox seems to have settled that... guess that answers the trailer funds relocation
