I have been a member here a short time. And a member at some of the other Diesel Blogs.

My question is what is normal FP for mt stock truck.

others talk about fass/air dog etc and high pressure

I have a 1999 Dodge 2500 :)

about 84k all stock ( I am third owner)

6 speed

exhaust break (not sure which)

fuel gauge at the Injector pump.

The guy before me put in 2 valves at the filter so i cannot get readings there.

so he could change the filter but by passing it. in case something happen to filter you could flip this switch and it would by pass filter completely.

This has the stock carter pump on the motor no in the tank.

So when i start truck up at idle it runs at about 10-11psi

WOT is about 8. 5 to 9

I pull a old 20 year old steel goosneck 2 horse trailer (about 15,000lbs)

when I bought the truck 2 years ago it would idle at about 14 and wot around 12.

I am guessing that the LP is going out.

I presently buy fuel in Mexico as i live in San Diego.

at 2. 29 a gallon can't beat it.

So the Question is :

looks like the LP is going bad ?

I here talk about the other high end pumps

is there a stock replacement pump. As i own a horse and am broke most of the time.

is there an official word on fuel pressures?

Some say do not go below 5psi :-{}

some say 8-9 some say 10 your in problem :-{}

then some are running at 0 wot and the pump is sucking it out. I would guess that is bad.

So what is the word here? Oo.

The factory book is not good.

I drive about 3000 miles a month for work and play.

I use amsoil ever 25k

everything else is stock.

I get 18 psi at idle 17 to 16 on the road thats after the filter

before filter 19 to 20 and 18 to17 on the road

the pump is a fass II pump 150 gph

if it has under 12 at idle you may want to park it until you can get a new lift pump

try to save that vp44 pump

even at 12 psi I would be looking for a new pump the stock pumps are a joke

well good luck and god bless

Fass and Air dog

Might be the better pump.

But us poor folk cannot afford that type of pumps.

anyone out there have another option?

Maybe i should re phrase the question.

what are factory specs for FP on a 1999 LP?

and what is tall arable?

If you buy a stock lp from Dodge it is going to cost you around 500. That was a few years ago when they first come out but still for that you can have the FASS II. It is just a pump and can be mounted to the frzme rail towards the tank or on the motor. Your choice. AirDog has something called the raptor and it is pretty much the same thing. AirDog is also cheaper than FASS usually.

There is also Holly pusher pumps andthe like. There is also BD performance has one. A buddy of mine is running the BD and in tank pump from Dodge and he is seeing around 22 psi @ idle and no less than 15 or 16 psi towing a heavy gooseneck loaded down with 4 wheelers.

Did you or a previuos owner make the truck a 6 speed?

From 99 FSM, fuel pressure engine cranking, 7psi minimum. Fuel pressure, engine running, 10 psi minimum. The VP has an overflow valve that opens at 14 psi. bg

I'm still running the stock LP but with bigger fuel lines and I did finally relocate it to the frame rail underneath so it's more of a pusher pump instead of a puller. I know when my pump is going out because it idles at around 14-15PSI and even with the box turned up it never goes below 11PSI. When it starts dropping below 10PSI I know it's on it's way out the door. Stock lines or big lines, pump relocated or not, box turned on or not, it would always stay above 11PSI. I replace it when I see it starting to drop to 10PSI or lower on WOT. If you want a pump but don't want to get bent over by the dealer then I would suggest going to a Cummins dealer or I get mine from a Freightliner dealer. They use the same pump in some of their trucks as well, I can get mine for around $150, maybe a little less. The part number on my spare is 3990082 and that was current as of August '07.

You also can get the fass in 95 gph set up. Check out Geno's Garage they stock the 95 gph.

Advance Auto Parts stocks a pump that will work don't know brand name.

I run a holley blue pump for $100 fuel pressure 14lbs and 20 when full load after the fuel filter. Stock had 16 and full load was 5. my holley only lasts for about 40,000
