NO OIL PRESSURE

Ill explain ... . The wive, son and I were going to get a burger, the truck started fine I allways let it run for a min or so and watch the oil pressure guage top out before I start driving and it did ! We started down the road got aprox. 1/4 mi from the drive way. the warning chime rang and the check guages warning light on the instrament pannel came on and AHH ... the oil pressure guage read zero!!!!0000 no oil pressure AHH... oops sorry freeking out again ... . well I pulled over and shut it off as soon as possable hit the four ways poped the hood and checked the oil was low down to the add line ... what the h... (just had it changed) so it had plenty of oil not full but plenty to make oil pressure was too dark and rainy to see much else but couldnt see anything covered in oil was going to run home and get the car but decided to turn the key on and see what happens oil pressure guage jumped up to about the half way mark and started to come down cycled the key again and waited for the wait to start to go out and started the truck to see if it still didnt have oil pressure... figured damage was probably allready done..... every thing seemed fine oil pressure up like normal ??? so is the guage goofy or just a electrical glitch or what  anyway drove it home and parked it we all jumped in the car and went figured I could look at it with a flashlight when we got back. thought maybe the oil filter blew a seal or split or a pressure line came of or something but cant see anything wrong !!!!

so what do you thing ??????

its saturday local 5er's not open wait till monday and call them ? can I drive it ??? should I??? OOH WHAT DO I DO???

thanks in advance !

Guy

Do a search.

Might want to do a search, I think someone else had this problem not to long ago, If I remember right it was just a glitch, but Im not sure.

Thanks Chuck 3

those other posts I found on the search you susgested sure make me feel a little better all I have to do is decide if I want to change the pressure sending unit or have the dealer try a reflash think ill talk to the dealer and see what they have to say on the subject beings I have to have them install a new seat belt anyway

Thanks again for the help !!

You are welcome Guy, thats what this site is all about helping each other, and it works great I think I have learned a great deal here. :)

Oil psi

VeeTenJeff is right. My oil pressure gauge went down to zero and check gauge light came on, sure scares the pants out of you. It acts up when ever it feels like. Took it in to dealer and there is a flash to fix the problem. I had it flashed and it never read zero again but... Now its pegged around 70psi or so, almost to the end of the normal line just before 110. what I notice is when engine sits for a few hours the gauge comes down to zero with key on, but after you drive it a while it always reads high even with engine off key on. I have a new sending switch coming and hopefully will fix new problem. Will post when it's done, nothing to worry about as this is a common problem with this year truck.

more than likely it is the guage or the circuitry that drives it, if you had enough oil in it i think you are ok. this is why i have one mechanical oil pressure guage guage on my truck :D

went to the dealer to night after work and talked to the service writer and he said ya im not suprised we have seen alot of them like that! and replaced a lot of sending units said to stop tommorow night and he would try to take care of it !!

so we will see what it takes to fix it !

I really like this guy allways tries to get me taken care of and he is allways on the run!! never seems to have a extra 2 seconds!!!

Oil guage

Heyboss, I had the zero oil press happen Friday morning and got the same story. The did the reflash and the guage went beserk right when I got home from the dealer. Today they put in a sending unit and all is well now. Funny, the tsb says not to replace the sender because it will not fix the problem.

Glad it worked out for you. I'm still waiting for my sending unit to come in along with the clock spring recall.

I'll tell you it sure scares the hell are you when you see that gauge drop to zero, at least it isn't anything serious. :)

Oil gauge fixed

Finally my new oil sending switch is in and it WORKS. Yes the fix is a new sending switch, I guess the flash they have stops the gauge from going down to zero but it still needs a new sending unit to fix it properly.

I'm a happy camper once again;)

I had it happen one time at around 30k. It said 0 psi but sounded the same. I went and asked my diesel mechanic and he said if it hit 0 psi the engine would make a whole lot of racket. I shut the truck off and restarted it and it was fine. Ive since put on almost 70k more miles and shes fit as a fiddle. Although I did here that chime 2 more times because my thermostat was failing, " oh those things never fail". She got a little warm a time or two, " oh thats normal operating temperatures".
