Anyone on this forum had experience with converting leaf spring trailer suspension to air bag suspension. Rather than pioneering a new way to do this I thought maybe someone had attempted it.
We have new trailer ordered with 6000 lb axles (4400 lb stock), the only way we can get air suspension is to buy complete suspenion kit after we take deliver of the trailer. $3500 for the kit.
My thinking now is to have the springs modified by a spring shop to have a full length tapered backup to the main leaf and deleting the remaining leafs. Then install air bags over each spring assembly. Someone has probably done something like this. I know it would'n't be fully air suspended but should have lots of advantages if I can make it work. Be nice to level the trailer side to side and fore and aft with an onboard compressor.
