Air bag help!

I need help with the firestone air bags part numbers they say I need part # 2071 kit then they say if I have the overload springs I need a different part # well I have included a picture can someone tell me what set I have and what kit I need.

It looks to me as if you do not have the overloads. On my 01. 5 the overload spring sits on a spacer above and shorter than, the main spring pack. I have the camper option which I believe includes the overload and the rear swaybar.

No overloads on that, #2071. You may have a problem with that bracket on the frame. That's where the upper bracket for the bag mounts. 2 bolts on each end, just off vertical. I don't have any pics of mine to show you how they sit, sorry.

Yea I know about the fw bracket on the frame rail I called firestone and asked if that woud be a problem and they said a 1/4 to 1/2 inch out should not be a problem I will have to drill through the fw bracket.

Try Timbrens instead. They won't interfere with the fifth wheel hitch bracket, don't require complicated air lines, and won't leak down.

Installed Timbrens on a 2004 and they were a waste of money in my opinion as they didnt' really help that much with load leveling, the truck continued to sag, later installed air bags and tossed the timbrens.

Timbrens are ok if you run either loaded or empty. If you run 1/2 loaded they are rough as cob. You hit a bump and hit the Timbrens, makes for a rough ride.

Its not possible for a truck to sag at the rear end with Timbrens but Pete Toombs is correct, with a light load the rebound range is reduced and they will make the truck ride rough. I used a set of Timbrens on an '06 when I was transporting and pulling heavy, sometimes very heavy. If I wasn't towing I was running empty. They worked great for my application but can make the ride pretty jouncy.

I have Timbrens on my 3500 dually and haul a heavy 11' 6" Lance camper with a slide out. I removed air bags after using them for about 30K miles. The air bags made for a stiffer ride when the truck was empty even with the air pressure in the bags lowered to 5 PSI. The Timbres returned my truck to its original empty ride. Also the air bags raised the rear of the truck more than I lkied when it was empty. However, I must add that my truck is either loaded to its maximum GVW or empty with nothing in between.

I use the Timbrens and they work well if you haul heavy or are empty which is my application.

If memory serves me correctly, the 2071 kit is universal (Fits alot of applications) and mounts to the outboard side of the frame, I have this kit on my 96 with a slight mod for the 5'er hitch rail mounts. The 'other' kit replaces the bump stop. This is the style I have on the '07. 5. Both kits took less than 2 hours to install and with the exception of doing a little bit of welding on the 2071 for the 96 was very easy to install. I am also not a believer of "having to keep the bag inflated to 5 psi" both installations run 0 psi when not loaded, the 96 has been on the truck for 170,000 miles and there is no notable leakage, the 07. 5 has and auto leveler kit installed and is set to keep the truck flat (Sort of like a leveling kit) when it is loaded. I have installed many ride rite and air lift systems in my time, IMHO I prefer the ride rites.



By the way the 07. 5 has overloads and the 96 does not.
