Air Bags, or Air Shocks

I am trying to decide to put air bags or air shocks on my rig to take some of the rough ride out of it when I tow my TT. The tounge weight is about #525, and does not weigh enough to smooth out the ride. I plan to move up to a larger 5er in the future, so I wanted to have something that I can adjust from inside the cab. Any suggestions?????????

Helwig or Airlift

I have Helwig's on my wife's '96 and I have Airlifts on my 2000. Either is a good way to go.

I have Firestone airbags... for the extra carrying capacity... not ride smoothness ability. Suppose the air shocks can help with the ride better than the bags.



With the bags, the ride is rougher, not smoother.

I'm not sure people understand what Kelderman air bags are! From my understanding they replace original suspension with air bags. Not just a supplement air bag like most systems. Set to ride, just like the big boys do. Thats got to be a smoother ride.

You're right. The bags are installed in a new hitch that replaces the OEM tow hitch. The shackles from the rear springs are mounted onto the Kelderman unit. The hanger unit that comes from the factory , the ones riveted to the frame, are removed. The axle springs are mounted to the air ride unit which puts all the weight of the truck on the air bags and it will ride like any truck with the same. From all I can find out , the price is well below what I thought it would cost. If you fill it can be done at home , you can get out for less than $800. For my money that is the only way to go.



I'm not looking to get help from the stock springs as far as the load level is concerned. I want a smoother ride with the capacity of my truck as it now stands. Air bags in conjunction with the stock shackle system will not get that. I do not feel.

Kelderman makes a lot of different things! They are in se Iowa and I live in nw Iowa. I have used their other products and have been well satisfied. Their # is 800- 334-6150. I sure would like to have their air bag system. Someday!!!!!
