Air Bags

Does anyone have experience with Airlift of Firestone Ride Rite airbags. I had Airlifts on my 97 3500 V10 and had nothing but problems. I went through 3 sets of brackets and finally had the bags removed. I'm waiting for my 2001 3500 QC 4X4 CTD. It's supposed to be built the 4th week of April. Can't wait!

I have the air lifts... only for about sixth months, but no problems yet.

I installed the Firestone Ride-rite kit (#2154) on my 3500 and like them very much. Easy to install and they maintain the air pressure very well. Since installation I no longer have any spring slap whatsoever and I know that is helping my universals tremendously. Must say the ride is a bit more on the firm side when empty, even at the recomended 10 pounds of air pressure. Cost 184. 42 out the door, so shop around. Dave

I have the Firestone air bags on my 1 ton dualie along with the on-board compressor. They work great for me. Had them on for a year now with no problems. I installed them primarily for use with my 4,500 lb pickup camper. Makes loading, unloading and leveling a breeze. Also compensates for side wind. With the onboard compressor I can air up most anything including my tires.

I had 5,000lb. air bags on my '97 and loved them. Now I have a 2000 3500 and installed the bags on that rig as well. I also haul a heavy camper. I have had failures due to bolt sheering. The bolts that come with the units are not case hardened shoulder bolts and can sheer off. I recommend all users of these bags install the highest quality bolts you can find. I think the bags are a good product and I like them.

I have hellwig airbags (bags made by firestone though). 50K miles/3 yrs and one trip from Alaska to East Coast. No problems at all, no breakage and no leaks. Don't have a compressor on the sys. Rig is used to tow 23 ft boat and generally truck weighs 7500+
