I've been considering adding a second air inlet to my stock air box. I have a KN replacement air filter and I have the flexible air intake hose off my '96 Ram V-8. I'm looking at cutting a rectangular hole in the firewall where the PSCOTTY connect there's and another rectangular hole in the lower back part of the airbox. Then, I'll trim the flexible hose and connect it to the firewall and the air box. In theory, I'm doubling the air feeding into the airbox.

Opinions? Suggestions?

I would be a little hesitant to cut up a new truck. Is there a need for more air? Are you having egt problems? I replaced my stock filter with a K&N and removed the snorkle. I don't know if it made much difference in performance but the turbo sounds better. If I was going to do any cutting I would go ahead with the Physcotty Air. I'm just reluctant to cut that hole and the truck already makes enough noise with the 4" exhaust and the K&N. My . 02.

Thanks y'all for the come back. Although I'm not having problems with EGTs, I'm always looking to make something a little better. I was doing fluid check the other day when I focused on how the turbo to intercooler hose is much bigger than the intake hose. My thinking is they should be close to the same size or volume to be efficient. One thing though: I give every mod careful consideration and try to weigh the pros and cons. I appreciate hearing both sides.

Cheers!

That is a source of good, clean air, but, you will get more noise because you are basically connecting the turbo inlet to your AC ducts. Ever heard someone talking in the next room by putting your ear to the air supply vent? It is the same with this mod.
Some people love the extra sound, some don't. I'm not saying one way or the other, I'm just saying think which group you are in before you cut.

Wiredawg,

You might just cut a couple of holes in the side of the air box toward the firewall and see it that works ok. I did that. Before I made the holes if I really got on it the filter minder would move about half way. It doesn't move at all now. If you do that be sure the holes are near the bottom (the dirty side) of the air box. If you decide that's not enuff you can always add a duct and make a hole in the firewall.

I did exactly this. I cut a 2. 5 in hole in th firewall and another hole same size in the air box. I then used a piece of shop vac hose to conect the two. it was a little hard to route the hose with out a kink in it but I finally did just that.
At first I did have a kink in the hose and decided to try it out. Well the whistle was very bad. I got the kink out and the turbo noise(whistle) is not nearly as bad but still can be heard. I think it is the perfect amount of noise.
As far as the performance goes if there was any change it was not very obvious to me.

I've got the same (sorta) truck as Patrick H. except 4x4... . I'm running a KN 880 and a pre-Psychotty hole for the filtration. Weather's turning cooler, so I thought I'd put the stock (ported!!) air box back on (rectangular KN there, too)... . EGT's do come down slower with the rectangle. The cone's back on.
