There has been a lot of discussion on the increased volume of air that you get when the snorkel is removed. The downside is that more hot air from the engine compartment is pulled in. It seems to be a tradeoff. The sound of the truck at idle is enhanced with the low rumbling growl at the airbox. I took mine off a couple of weeks before the EZ went on. I went to put it back on after drilling some holes in it to try to increase air flow. The turbo sucked it right out of the fender and into the air box. Needless to say, the snorkel is off for good.
 
John said it best, the increase in volume of air will outweigh the increase in tempature. If you are going to keep the stock airbox, you may as well remove the boot.

I agree... I think it was MikeR that popped my hood one day, ripped the snorkel out, and threw it over his shoulder... as I looked on and my jaw dropped!
