Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Air Cleaner gets dirty real quick

hey guys ive had my truck now for about 2500 miles when i bought the truck they replaced the air cleaner now after only about 2500 miles the filter minder says it is time to replace the filter so i opened up the air box and the filter is caked with crap i see that the air comes from the fender just above the right front wheel could i be getting salt and road debris up there or do i have a problem also has anyone used a aftermarket air cleaner kit you know one of the ones that is coned shape by the way my truck is a 1996 with 2 wheel drive

The afe is the best I have seen. It has a cone under the hood

You can remove that little boot between the air box and the fender and see if that helps. There is nothing wrong with the stock air box/filter. It does a very good job of filtering... ... Its just too restrictive for the heavy duty bombers

Check your exhaust clamps near the turbo. Mine leaked and made the filter very dirty very quickly!

R U SURE THEY REPLACED THE FILTER. I DONT EVER REMEMBER MINE CAKING UP THAT FAST.

yes they did put a new one in i checked before and after and the gave me an invoice for the thing too

Mine crudded up quickly, too. Maybe it is a 2wd thing?

I went to a BHAF. The oiled filters put too much noise (turbo whistle) in the cab for my ears.



Can you make it to the get together at Torque Diesel on Saturday? There should be a few there with after market choices.
