Towing mirrors or 6x9's?

Thinking of buying a 95 CC SLT 4X4

Went in for my throttle cable replacement and I questioned that I thought I should have more power at low end. The first thing the mechanic said you need a K&N air filter. I asked him why? His reply was that I had a brand new Fleetguard air filter but my gauge on the air cleaner was reading . 7 and with a k7N this would be much less.

What does this air cleaner gauge normally read and I know there is much pro's and con's about K&N but do they help low end and are they safe for my truck I have 69k on the truck.

TIA

Welcome to the TDR Website!

The "K&N" filters are a very controversial subject on this

website. Do a search for "K&N filters" and you find ALOT

of reading in the archives!!

Personally, I like the K&N filters. I used them in my

92' Dodge CTD and also in my current 96'. I have

had no problems with them and presently have

142,000 miles on my 96. ' My 92' was sold with

94,000 miles on it. I sold it to buy the 96'. (more

room).

I have said before and will say it again, I feel one

of the biggest problems with the K&N is improper

oiling of the filter element. I have sent my oil to

the labs for analysis and have never had high

readings in any area. They were always within

the "normal" readings. Other members will tell

you the same thing.

About the "low end power" question you had.

Dyno wise, I don't think it is a substantial gain

in H. P. , but the K&N's do breathe better and you

will hear more turbo whine so "seat of the pants"

you may feel like you have more power. Personally,

I love the way they sound.

Milto, this is my opinion on the matter. Other

members will respond, both pro and con.

I suggest going to your local parts store

(Auto Zone, Advance Auto) and buy one to

try it. If I were closer to you I would let you

try one of my "stock airbox" K&N's. I have

gone to the Psychotty Air box now, which

is also a controversial" product.

Hope this has helped you some.

Just my HO (humble opinion).

Milt,

Stock filter> K&N in the stock box> Pychotty with KN 880>BHAF.

Study the archieves. But IMHO, the BHAF is the best so far. EGT's managable, quiet enough, no waisted time to clean, just chuck. Go for it.

Milto, I have never seen the gage read anything on mine even with the stock filters, but I usually change mine before it gets too dirty. From what I've read the gage goes from one extreme to the other and when it does read you've probably gone too long on the filter. JMO. :)
