Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) MPG check....

I want an air compressor.
The type of output I'd like (air tools) seems like it's around $1500~ish, that's an instant no go. Got to do it on a low budget.
Been googling this...and searching old posts here, and it seems a real good home made setup can be made using an old York 210 type a/c compressor.
It looks like it'll be a tight fir under the hood, but do able.
I'm pretty sure I can fab something up, but I sold my lathe a few years back so I can't make my own combination serpentine V-belt pulley to replace my alternator pulley.:{
Any suggestions of places where I can find one? Or some sort of database I can look through?
Also, does anyone here have an install like I'd describing? Can you post some pics? Give tips/ pointers on this setup?
Thanks

There was an aftermarket company that made everything you needed for the 12 valves and used the york compressors.I have not seen them at the shows for a couple years.Kilby enterprises was the name I think.

Kilby never made a setup for the 12V though, once upon a time I was in the market for it on my 97 but I just went electric instead.

A good electric combined with a storage tank would be far simpler and probably do what you need.

I have an extreme aire compressor on my truck. Been under the truck for well over 10 years and getting ready to mount it on the new truck. It is electric and has worked flawlessly for my needs. However not sure it is capable of running air tools at least very well. However they since added an extremeaire magnum that is more powerful and may be up to your task of running tools well.

I had also looked at the Kilby stuff originally way back when but to be honest for me it was out of my price range at least for what I needed. I had also looked at Oasis which is still around. It seems to be the bad boy of 12v compressors at 62lbs, 180 amps, 14cfm free flow and well over $1500 it is and was back then well out of my price range for my needs.

I have a 1/2 horsepower electric since '95.On my 94 I had about 40 gallons of air tanks mounted under the bed by way of big rig tanks all connected by 1/2 air brake lines.I had no trouble running my 1/2 impact.I was able to run a 1" impact to r&r a big rig flat on the side of the I 15.

Thanks guys!
Ive searched up at least most of those places.
Wish I could afford the Oasis.........{sigh}
I was thinking either the York 210 or an old chrysler RV2. Either way it'll be tight. The RV2 pumps more air and it may give me the height advantage. Needs to be pretty low as the hood will decide if/what's used. The rotary compressors are (imo) not suitable. They don't have a dedicated oil sump, they rely of the oil circulated through the refrigerant to live.
I do see factory brackets that place the compressor over near the front of the cylinder head. I dont think I'll have the vertical room for that.
It will need to go next to the alternator, and I'll have to relocate the overflow tank. Not a big deal. I have a UTE front bumper, so I can put it there and mount a 5-10 gallon air tank relief valves, QD chucks etc,there besides the overflow tank.:-laf

The four wheeler write up.....it's a rotary compressor. I suppose it'll work a while, but it will die sooner rather than later IMO.
The trail boss is nice, but $1200.........
The outback is decent, but not enough for air impact. imo

I have a York-style comp (top in/out) on my 1G that's mounted driver's side above IP and drives off V-belt run from pulley added on fan mount. Don't know if location/belting would work with 2G or not but might be able to grab some pix if needed. It cycles on @ 120, off @ 150, 5-gal tank kind of a buffer, ran 1/2-inch impact enough to do 8 lugs off, some 3/8 stuff semi-continuous and took 2 minutes to air up 33/12.50-16.5 from 10 psi to 40.

Try surplus center.com they have hydraulic pumps with a serpentine belt drive they might have a compressor to

Thanks.
The surplus center has some things some times, but whenever I need something, they dont have it.:D

A bracket is the easy part.
The 8 groove alternator pulley with a standard V groove outboard.....that's a BIG problem to source.
One guy used to make them, Kilby or Kirbey? Don't matter, they're OOB.
One or two guys on fleabay make 6 groove-v combo's. NOBODY makes 8 groove combo's.
I'm not sure if it would be easier making the entire pulley or fashioning a coupler nut to facilitate the V groove belt as an add on......
