Can anyone tell me if they have ever heard of the front pully assembly on the AC compresser breaking? My AC compresser is fine and has a charge however the pully assembly needs to be replaced. I'm told you can only replace the complete compresser assembly for aprox. $300. 00 Is there any other way to get just the pully assembly or is the complete assembly the way to go? A salvage yard doesn't want to sell this part? My truck is a 99 Dodge 2500 cummins turbo. All suggestions are appreciated. Sorry this was my 1st time in the forum. I can be reached at -- email address removed -- Thanks to all!

Welcome to the forums. You should be able to replace just the clutch/pulley/bearing assy. on the compressor and it is a fairly straight forward job. Check with your NAPA auto parts store for availibility. I think the complete comressor would be more than $300. 00 bg

Part number for compressor clutch pack

You can buy the clutch pack separately. Two of the springs broke that disconnect the AC clutch. The part number is MOPAR number 4882009. I got mine from MOPAR4LESS for approx $200 last year. Call MOPAR4LESS and get a quote and go back to your dealer and tell them the price you were quoted. If you have any credits at the parts counter, they will deal. I have done this several times, but usually just get parts from MOPAR4LESS. Make sure to specify 'internet sales'.

Had mine replaced at a local shop... $199. 25 for the clutch pack parts. Total material and labor for the compressor clutch and evaporator core plus filter dryer, liquid line w/ orfice tube, etc. etc.

$1332. 97 :eek:

My AC quit just as we left Az. heading to Utah this month. It started snowing shortly after and made my problem real small. Now back in Alaska and what is an air conditioner anyway?

It sounds like the clutch may be the culprit from reading the previous posts.

ouch!!!

1332. 97... . oh boy did they aleast kiss you after they ____ you?

that is alott of money!! :--) :--) :--) :--) :{ :-{}

No kiss... :( but they did forget to put in some soundproofing around the tubes going through the firewall and now is sounds like the engine is in my lap, then inferred that I was a A- Hole for mentioning it. Thought I was at the (ST) dealers :p Also the alarm didn't work along with the radio... . but they did make good on that only after whining that ... coulda been like that..... shoulda checked it out first... ... after market cd player caused it... ... now we know why the other guy didn't want you as a client... then- OH! we're sorry,,, our guy didn't plug in the antenna and reset the alarm. DOESN'T ANY BODY THAT WORKS ON VEHICLES HAVE A WORK ETHIC??? I go through this EVERY SINGLE TIME. :mad:

I had a similar problem while in FL this winter. The three links on the front plate broke. You can't buy that part. They want to sell you a whole new clutch for a couple of hunderd bucks when all you need is that little $15. 00 item. If you could find a used one the same year as your truck you could just change the broken part but watch to make shure the one you get is in good condition. The first one i looked at was partly broken . They didn't have another one in my year truck. I ended up buying a complete used compressor off a 2000 for $125. 00. The clutch was differn't then the one on my 96 so i just installed the whole compressor. The clutch on the 2000 looks like it might be a little stronger. Shure beats paying DCs price for a new one.
