My air conditioner fuse keeps blowing. It seems to work ok when its on. Could it be the clutch or compressor? Its not the blower fuse. It works fine.

On the compressor there are two wires between the back of pulley and the compressor itself. Insulation on the wires could be damaged from the spinning pulley.

i just had the same problem on my '97. the shop found that one of my horns was shorting internally and the horns as well as a/c are on the same fuse. they just disconnected the horn that was shorted and when i want i can replace the horn.

This is a real stretch. But have you had the truck in for service lately ? Couple years ago I had my car in for service (I forget for what). When I got is back, I

started blowing the a/c fuse (it also took out my power windows). It was really hot inside.

Anyway, just by accident, I realized that the shop had removed some fuses (or was it relays ?) and put them in backwards. (Far left should have been on far right, and far right should have been on far left). So, I was overly protected on one circuit, and the a/cpower window circuit had too small of a fuse. So, when I switched them back around, everything worked right.

Thanks, I will check that. I do remember my horn sounded weird, like only one was working.

This is what mine is like also. Just one horn working & a/c is compressor not working...

So if I just disconnect the horn, my a/c may start working?

You may also check the air gap on the clutch. If it's too much it can cause the clutch to draw more.

the shop told me it was the low horn. the pitch of the horn not the location of the horn. this is what was taking out the fuse. i would assume just disconnecting it would fix the problem if it is the horn shorting out and not the wire somewhere on the chassis. check your manual and see what all your a/c fuse is tied to. .

I disconnected the horns. Then I opened the fuse block on the fender and noticed I have a fuse for the horn and a seperate fuse for the a/c compressor. I replaced the a/c fuse and the a/c worked yesterday.

Maybe tonight I'll hook the horns back up and pull the horn fuse. If they don't work then they can't have anything to do with the a/c.
