The passenger side air conditioning on my 2003 stopped working. The driver's side still works. I took it to the dealer and after instection they said that I needed a new evaporator at a cost of $1300. This doesn't make sense to me as for if the evaporator wasn't working why is the driver's side air still working? The dealer couldn't answer.

Does anybody have any answers??

I suggest you see another dealer... . There is only one evaporator, if there was a leak, there would be no cold air...

I agree with Jim - the dealer's explanation sounds odd.

I was thinking it's probably a broken blend door (VERY common).

When the freon level gets low only a section of the ONE evaporator cools. Use the SEARCH function of this site and you ought to find LOTS of reading on the subject. Its been a COMMON(drivers side cooling but not pass. )ever since 3rd generations have come out. Add some FREON to yours and it will cool all across the dash until it leaks down low again. These trucks DO also have the broken vent door issues but not what they found on yours. That keeps the air from blowing top or bottom and sounds like a stopped vacumn cleaner. Now the vent door issue(TSB)can be updated while your evaportor is being swapped out. The TECH that worked on your truck could have told you why it was only drivers side if he knew about auto ac. Try adding some gas and see if it dosen't cool clean across for a while. RBATTELLE. You have read enough of this stuff to have heard of this issue! Its POSTED EVERY SUMMER many times or several LONG posts. You usually are on TOP of these things. LOL.
