A/C help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My condenser is leaking it has been leaking for awhile. I am just to busy to take car of it. For awhile I would just put some freon in it and it would work for a couple of weeks. Now its a couple of days. The berings on the compressor look to be shot now you can hear them chatter and the pulley seems to wobble. I called the dodge complaint line and got nowhere. Is there anything I can do. My local mechanic has seen over a dozen cases of this. To me that means it is way to common. I have the issue of TDR that walks you through the fix, which I don't have time to do now. But I still think that it should be addressed by chrysler.

Any comments, or assistance?

Here, Here. Is it your condensor or evaporator leaking. I'm pretty sure my Evaporator leaks, but I don't want to rip out my Dash to fix it.

Gonzo. You still have A C at 230000 mi. That is amazing mine has been gone for at least 4 years. They want $1200 to fix. windows still work.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the condensor was under the dash and the evporator was the thing that looks like a radiator, that is strapped to the radiator.

Nope, Mine doesn't work. It's been gone for three years. I do think I'm going to fix it though. I read the article in issue 46 of the TDR magazine, but would gladly accept additions photos or DIY instructions if anyone has them.

Try bypassing the circuit that runs from the PDC, through the PCM, to the A/C low/high switches. Mine gave out, hmmm, it was in 2001; taking the PCM out of the loop got it working again, and it's been fine since (except for the slow leak). On the diesel, the PCM is not needed, since we have a plethora of torque and don't notice that the A/C is on when climbing mountains. Contrast that with undertorqued gassers that have to have the PCM turn off the A/C at WOT to gain that extra bit of torque and HP.
