What should it cost to have the AC serviced????? Can a non-dealer like say Jiffy Lube do a good job?????

If they have a AC certified mechanic.

If your ac is blowing cold it does not need service of course if it is not blowing cold as usual it could be a couple of things

Like Bill said if it's bloowing cold don't let anyone _ with it. If it's not find a radiator shop that services a/c and see what the prices are for system evaluation (they'll find the problem and give a cost to fix it) the price should usually be part of whatever the repair or if it's in need of a charge price. Frankly if the system needs a charge there's a leak - if there's a leak it needs to be fixed. Do a search here for "Evap" and read on. Good luck to ya.

Why do you want to have it serviced?

Is there a leak or is it not blowing cold? Or just preventative maintenance.

For the cost of the service you could buy a set of gauges and check the system yourself (if you want).

But like Joe said... ... If there is a leak. That should be addressed first. Then deal with the service.

Throwing a can of freon in may get you buy (NO STOP LEAK, just freon). But if there is a leak... . It will have to be fixed eventually.

Funny how no one worries about the A/C until it is blazing hot outside (me included). :-laf

A/C Repair

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a good shop in the South Austin, Texas, area that works on the a/c system? With all the shops around that don't do good work I want to feel comfortable that I'm taking my truck to someone that knows what their doing. Mine was parked for a while, and when I went to start it up it just blew out hot air. I could tell the a/c clutch wasn't kicking in, so I bought a refill kit with a gauge and checked it. It was reading full according to the gauge, so I bought an a/c clutch relay hoping that would solve the problem. It still does not work, so I'm going to have to take it somewhere. Also, what about a shop that works on diesels in the same area?

Thanks in advance... . Jeff

at 140K I had to have a shop recharge the AC system but now its just blowing hot air again GRRRr!! but my fan clutch is constantly on-off on- off every few seconds what typical things "leak" freon? or places to leak?

Im guessing its going to cost a arm and leg to repair but maybe not

Ian

Well doesn't the freon eventually leak out......

I mean I don't really understand AC units and what causes them to go south - but at times mine doesn't blow cold air for several minutes... ... . not every now and then.....
