I installed an Air Dog 150 with a Draw Straw V returning fuel to the factory fuel suction straw using a dorman adapter for 1/2" lines. Problem is that when I finally got my X-monitor fuel pressure gauage hooked up, w/ a T in the line, I am showing pressure from 32-36 lbs. The unit is suppose to be set at 15 lbs from the factory and they included an extra spring in the kit. Did I miss read the instructions and need to change the spring in the return line or does anyone have other ideas? Am I going to hurt the pump with higher pressure? Thanks.

Sounds like the factory return can't take the fuel fast enough. I would run the line as Airdog suggested, going back to the filler tube.

i think you just helped me solve a problem. i just got a raptor150 pump for a 01 this is the pump on the airdog it did not say anything about a return line and we have been trying to turn it down all day . it would not move from 75 psi. was going to call raptor monday

That pressure is way TOO much for the VP-44 (yes too much pressure is bad as well, what a great pump... #@$%!), It really should not be more than 15-20 depending on year. 15psi for you I believe.

If you run that much pressure say goodbye to the VP44, Maximum pressure should not be over 20PSI, I run 18, ran higher and blew a pump once

I've been running 24psi for 6 years now & I have not had a single issue. My brother was running 30psi for a while with no issues. I don't suggest going over 24psi myself, but there are many guys out there proving me wrong every day.

Just a heads up, I ran 30psi, took about two years to blow it. VP can't handle and does not need that kind of pressure. When I took it apart, I saw the damage.

Holy smokes thats wayyyyyy to much pressure. Factory lift pumps only supply 9-10 psi to the vp44. I would definately do something about that. You vp44 is going to go out sooner or later. It is not made to handle that pressure.

any thoughts on how to reduce the pressure? I installed an in-line pump in front of the tank due to LP pressure being low. Maxed out my gauge (30 psi) when I started it, need to back it off somehow... any ideas would be helpful, and no money for a FASS/airdog...

After a little investigating, most of my problem was a restriction in the return line. I planned on running the fuel back through the original fuel supply outlet via a dorman adapter as recommended by the Draw Straw V instructions. What I didn't realize is that there must be a check valve and the original suction straw needed to be cut to allow the fuel to flow back. This dropped the pressure to 22lbs. I then cut a coil from the relief valve spring on the Air Dog which dropped the pressure to 18-19lbs at idle. I am going to run it there for now.

Pressure

18-19 psi at idle is near perfect . maybe just 2-3 lbs on the high end. I put in the Airdog 150 about three years ago and the pressure was 26 lbs from the factory . I installed the lighter spring and it only held 11 psi. so i pulled the lighter spring out and stretched it a little bit untill i had at a perfect 16psi at idle !
