First time here, I've been told that if you remove the boot from the air box to the fender, source of air intake, you will increase the flow of intake air. Has anyone done this and will it hurt anything? Also if replacing the element with a K&N, would that flat piece of foam stay under the element like it is now ?

Thanks, AL

do your truck a favor

and toss the snorkel and no the foam would go

Check out an Amsoil TS-106 air filter its twice as nice as the K&N and is less expensive.

PS Welcome to the TDR :D

Of course this is Bobs Opinion. I really like my K&N. You should also check out the moparguy Big filter thread.

Filter box snorkel & silencer ring

Removing your snorkel to the box won't hurt anything. It will allow more air but, I've heard some dissucion of the aid it adds is from the motor compartment and therefore hotter. Anyway, I took mine off when I left for a 6,000 mile trip it still runs fine. The unexpected pleasure was you can hear the turbo a little more without it:) And, if you remove the silence ring that provides a bit more turbo noise too. Don't throw anything away though you may wish to put the silencer back on later on. Haven't decided to do K & N in the box or out of the box yet? I kind of like the stock filter minder. Just MHO.

Oh, the manual says it is not necessary to remove the filter box cover and check the filter. They (DC) recommend utilization of the filter minder only.

Happy trails;)

I have a K&N flat panel if anyone wants it I upgraded to the RE-0880. The filter only has 973 mile on it so if anyone wants it I'll sell it for 40 plus shiping

I kept my snorkle, I drilled 6 1-1/4 " holes in the snorkle where it goes through the fender, so it draws more air from the fender well and not the engine compartment. It was the fix for me, I was hitting the 80% mark on the filter guage before I drilled the holes but, not any more.
