Allllll righty folks,

I've done some research via various threads on the various air filter mods (aFe, Soctty, BHAF, K&N) and most of the replies seem to state that the big benefit is a louder turbo spooling noise with some stating that they lower the EGT when stomping on throttle.

Now the noise and all is fine and dandy, but have any of you noticed a significant "Seat-of-The-Pants" (SOTP) increased driving performance from a filter such as the aFe stage 1 and 2? aFe claims 15hp & 40lbs for stage 1; while stage 2 boasts 50hp and 112lbs of torque.

Now, I've got an EZ installed and I can say that their hp/torque can be verified by my smile and the stain in my buddies shorts zipp'n along a curved incline on a freeway.

1) Any of you notice the 50lbs and 112lbs of torque by SOTP or dyno?

2) any of you have one of these filters dried up from the turbo?

other than turbo noise and 100 lower EGT, anyone got real performance comments and numbers? from a air filtration BOMB?

tks

steve

I have personally tested the AFE on two trucks. Both trucks had k & N replacement filters in the stock air box with the boot removed.

The first truck had just a comp and it gained 6hp on a mustang dyno. The numbers went from 302 to 308.

The next truck had a drag comp and 275 injectors. It made 354 before the AFE and 373 after. (19 hp increase)

EGT's Did seem a bit lower on the 350+ HP truck.

But not a real noticeable change on the 300hp truck.

And yes there is a noticable increase in turbo whine on both trucks.

I was suprised to see that big of a gain over the K & N since the filter minder was not being pulled down on the stock air box. I plan on testing a 450hp truck with the AFE next to see what kind of difference it will make.

It has been proven that the AFE flows more air than the open 4" pipe. Saw this with my own two eyes and about 80 other TDR member eyes at dyno day at the AFE plant. Cant remember the exact numbers but maybe someone will chime in with them. One member had his BHAF tested against the AFE and the AFE flowed much more air, and gained 8hp on the dyno after the switch.
