I need to replace my broken, rusted-out exhaust system. There are far too many to choose from...

Unless there is a compelling reason to spend the big bucks for a stainless system, I think an aluminized would fit my budget better right now. If I read the old threads correctly, a 4 inch is plenty for my motor. Is that correct? They seem to run about $300 to $350. The Cummins is stock right now but I do want to eventually try to get close to 400hp.

To help on the other end, and to replace the K&N that seems to be in disfavor here, I was considering an S&G air filter with it's enclosed air box. I like the idea of trying to keep the intake air as cool as possible. Looks to be about $200. Any opinions on those?

Are there any particular brands or types of exhaust systems or air filters I should be considering or avoiding besides the K&N that came with my truck?

I went with Rip's 4'" exhaust and it went together great. Here is a link:dodge_alu_exhaust

The BHAF is a good cheap option, thats what I have now. I'm also looking at that enclosed air box, the one that connects to the factory fender duct with the clear lid? I wonder who makes their filters?

A 5" exhaust is for bragging rights, I wouldn't want anything louder than my straight 4". The 4'" down pipe is used either way, I didn't notice a reduction in EGT's going from a straight 3" to a straight 4" exhaust. I did see an improvement in turbo spool and it sounds like a big rig now. Some like the sound of the 5", you can always get a long 5" tip. I use a long chrome 4" turn down at the stock location. Source Automotive has them.

BHAF brings in hot air from the engine bay. Try looking at an intake kit from AFE or S&B, S&B make the clear lid intake systems.
