Difference in Injectors

Ok I have read just about every thread in the past 2 years on airbox mods and such and have modded mine and used a few different filters. the nano filter did a great job of filtering and giving goo airflow when clean but I didn't get but 30k before i couldn't clean it anymore and it was pulling down the filter minder and blowing black with out and power adders. so I switched to the flat panel AFE( i wanted the deep version for the stock airbox but I got a good deal on the flat) At fist it did great and went about 25k before It need cleaning and about the last 10k of that was with some power adders. The next run was about 10k and it was time to clean it due to the black smoke that i was getting but not pulling down the filter minder. When i took it out i noticed some fine dust on the inside of the clean side of the airbox and in the tube to the turbo. That bugged me. I have been using fabric filters like this for years and never had had that problem , I may have messed up when oiling it but who knows, I did notice that there are so small holes that i can see light through when not oiled and I can't see how oil will help that.

So to my point I'm thinking of giving the nano filter another chance(have the come up with a bigger filter yet that fits in the stock air box?) and re doing my fresh air intake with a large foam filter either non oiled or a very coarse filter with some oil or using a outer wear to help pre clean the air to help the nano stay cleaner longer. I'm pushing the limits of the stock airbox from what i have seen on tdr since with everything on its realy close if not over 500hp witch is getting to the lits of the stock turbo aswell. So am I out of my mind or is it something that is worth working on?

Of course it's something worth working on. Most of the innovations for these trucks comes from guys like you putzing around in the garage.

And yeah, your'e out of your mind. :D

I mod'd my stock box... I run a standard paper filter, 10k change intervals.

After my K&N I would never use another oiled filter... and seeing the oily film on my filters, there is no way a dry filter would "blow clean" in my application.

I do UOAs and never see any elevated silicon (silicon indicates dirt passing the airfilter)

I have the same basic setup right now just that i don't have the extra large filter in my airbox just a standard AFE replacement. I liked the filtering ability of the Nano filter witch is better than any oiled filter but it just clogs to fast thats why i want to use a prefilter for the most part

I did a mod smiler to CUMMINZ and use the "NANO" filter, and have cleaned it twice since I installed it. My last 4 oil analysis taken at 10,000 mile intervals have shown "Silicon" levels beginning at 16 ppm, 24 ppm, 25 ppm, and the last one was 25 ppm. I feel these numbers are pretty consistent.

These numbers have never been flagged.

The PSM intakes are pretty much what a bunch of us have done already. yes the nano filter does an incredible job at filtering the air, But the problem is that the nano was useless after about 30k, it just wouldn't come clean enough to keep the filter minder from pulling down. I hope to start on the first part this weekend basialy usibg a K&N outer wrap to prefilter the air before it gets up to the stock air box.
