Just wondering if you take the stock air filter housing off and just have the filter NAKED with just the hose going into the turbo, if you gane eney power, or if you can hear the turbo more. What is all the first geners doing? Thanks Justin:eek:

Probably hear the turbo a little more. Keep in mind though that filters aren't real sturdy by themselves so it would be prone to damage and would tend to get coated with anything (oil, radiator water, dirt/dust) found under the hood. Most guys leave the air box in there but cut or hole-saw additional openings in them. Mine is opened up on the front face above the tube that comes in from behind the grill to about 11:00 position then from about 1:00 position to almost 3:00 position. This still shelters the filter while giving it lots more air.

Hope this helps, Jones

Hi Justin, I dont know if any other 1st gen guys have done this, but I did away with the filter, housing and piping, got a fleetgard #AH190002 air filter,a 45deg. rubber elbow,a 3. 5"l piece of 4"dia. exhaust pipe. It works real well spools up quicker, idles smoother at start up. yes you can hear the turbo more!
