Getting ready to swap out my K&N filter for either an AFE or an AIRAID CAI.

Doing a topic search, it appears that the TDR people here like the AFE best.

Is one better than the other?

Then, when I scrubbed clean the K&N today, I also pulled the induction tube off of the turbo. The turbo blade had dirt on the leading edge--much like a ceiling fan collects dust on it's leading edge.

When I switch to the better filter system, it should filter out the rest of the dust particles.

Perhaps your aftermarket filter will be almost as effective as the OEM filter.

Did you know the stock air system is good for about 500 HP? And it doesen't allow abrasive dust in the intakr systrem, or allow it to get into your engine?

Thanks Fellows, I did not know that the OEM filter was good to 500 hp or that it was really an effective air cleaner.

I am not sure about all the micron particle stuff. It was my understanding that the aftermarket air cleaners allowed an increased air flow and filtered to smaller particle sizes--keeping the air clean.

I have an AFE drop in that has been in my stock air box since 05. I keep thinking I should replace it but never do. The dam thing is filtering really good. I guess the only reason I'm not running OEM is that I can clean and reuse the AFE.

I always smear a light film of synthetic grease around the opening of the turbo to see if there is any dirt/dust getting past the filter element. I use a clean white shop towel and wipe the opening of the turbo where the grease is it at every oil change to see if there is any dirt. Then re apply another film. ;)

Thank you McDaddy.

I have been using a K&N drop in for several years and usually clean it quarterly or before a long trip.

I will try your idea and put a thin layer of vasoline in the intake neck of the turbine.

If that filter is working 'really good', you ought to see some dirt on it. A clean filter hasn't stopped very much.
