Edge CTS2 Insight Monitor and FRP?

Delo CK-4 in 30,000 mile 2006 5.9?

Hi,

Was on Genos today and noticed there were 3 different filter options for air filter for ‘03-07. 2x fleetguard and 1 mopar.

Is there a specific one that’s best? My truck is stock and live in Wisconsin.

Also, how often are you changing your air filter?

Thanks,

Matt

The Fleetguard filter breaths much better than the Napa/Wix, which would easily pull my filter minder down. They didn't used to but the newer filters just aren't as good. I even replaced my filter minder just in case.

How often do you change oil? What kind of environment is your truck subject to?

Since my truck is not my daily driver I change the oil once a year regardless of miles. The mileage has varied from 9000 to 14000 miles based on my records. However, probably 70% highway and 30% county maintained dirt/gravel roads and very little towing. I haul an ATV or RZR most of the time otherwise empty. Looks like I'm at 14000 this year and just changed the oil. I'm testing the oil this change and expect the results soon. Truck was exposed to very dusty conditions this year at times but the filter minder never showed a change was necessary but the filter was dirtier than usual for sure. No dust in the intake. I'm going to visually check the air filter after dusty conditions from now on as an extra precaution.

Good to know on the Napa filter. I thought they were the same. The Mopar filter comes in a box that is also flying the Cummins logo. Doesn't show Fleetguard anywhere on the box. Is the Fleetguard a 4" extended duty paper filter and if so what is the part number?

I've been using Wix\Napa filters for 10 yrs now. I have the Home Depot mod. No issues with restriction.
On the other hand my buddy just installed an S&B unit with a dry filter and the Filterminder moves down.
Go figure. 15K on air filters since I don't go to Baja much anymore.

I have the HD mod as well.
The Wix worked fine for years but then after a replacement, the new one pulled down. Tried a Napa instead and it still dropped. Finally got an expensive FG and it doesn't move.

I'll have to look at my filter-minder today, I forgot about it. I believe I changed my air filter roughly 1 year ago with a NAPA part. When I bought the truck it had a K&N in the stock air box.

I also may be thinking I'm changing my oil too frequently. Should buy a UOA and verify.

Thanks for all the responses.

Just wondering cause you said you change the air filter at every oil change. I figured you were in some dusty conditions. I check my filter at every oil change, but only change if it’s needed. I changed the last air filter around 45K miles, mostly highway driving.

FYI--these upgraded 4" thick air filters hold OVER ONE POUND (546 grams by the Fleetguard specs) of dirt and dust and continue to filter the air ever more efficiently until they load up completely and it is time to change them.

Amazingly, the only slightly larger 6.7 CTD air filter holds a whopping n 775 grams of dust/dirt before it starts losing efficient flow and needs to be changed.

For all of you non believers (JK/LOL) heres the proof...
or you can simply look at the side of your Fleetguard air filter next time you change it--

Seafish, I noticed the one say "at .25 bar" and the other doesn't specify. That may be the diff.

That well might be true, though IIRC the 6.7 filter is al title larger and has MORE pleats.
I would also tend to think that the .25 bar, if it is referring to max pressure loss, would be fairly accurate for both engines, though I am not at all sure about that.

Here's a photo of my air filter that I just changed. I don't recall one this bad but still did not trip the filter minder. While I lost my turbo which affected performance the truck never smoked which I would expect if I had an air restriction. I have only had one air restriction on all the Dodge diesels I have owned (1993, 1997, 1998.5, 2006). I have to go back to my 1993 W350 12 valve. Coming back from a hunting trip truck started performing poorly and when I tried to push it there would be substantial smoke. Limped home and when I finally got to the air box was shocked to find that I had ingested a bird through the air filter intake and the feathers had coated the air filter! Crazy! We had no rain from June until November this year so the roads were very dusty. I too have the HD mod but from now on I'm capping it while on dusty roads. I'll open it back up on the highway.

Thats a great pic of how well these air filters function!!!

If you still have it, you might do us all a favor by WEIGHING it and then also weighing the replacement which should still be in relatively new condition. Obviously you would ned access to a relatively accurate scale...like maybe take it down to your local post office in aplastic bag and then ask them to weigh each of them ?? LOL

The comparative weight would obviously tell us all how much DIRT the filter has protected your engine from while still functioning and we could compare to to the specs printed on the filter.

Whaddya think??

What is an am accurate scale? I have a Taylor 32 oz scale and just measured a new unused Mopar filter at just under 29.5 oz. I don't have the dirty filter here at the house but can get it tomorrow and report back. You are probably looking for a finer measurement I would guess.

Taylor is a reputable scale manufacturer and that the scale you have oughta be accurate enough ... the problem is that the the filter can hold up to 19 ounces of dirt and you are already pushing its limits with an unused filter at 29 ounces...which is already good to know because that means you only need to take the used one in a plastic bag down to your post office or local shipping office. LOL

The old filter weighs just under 34 ozs so around 4 1/2 ozs of material in the filter. If it holds 19 it doesn't sound like it was anywhere close to capacity and why my filter minder did not trip.
