I saw a pitcure of a 12 valve ctd with a cone air filter bolted right to the turbo housing. It looked trick. Does anyone have opinions about this? Would heat be a factor for the filter itself, or heat from being closer to the engine? Just curious.

I wouldnt want to mount my air filter there, due to the fact that it would be the hottest possible place for the filter to suck in air.
